Scandinavian Audiology, 1992
This paper reports the results of a componential analysis of items comprising the Speech Sound Pattern Discrimination Test (SSPDT). The SSPDT, developed by Bochner et al. (1986), uses a closed-set sentence discrimination task to assess the auditory speech processing skill of severely and profoundly hearing-impaired individuals.

A simple differential discriminator
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1973Abstract A circuit was designed to detect anticoincidence for single-channel analyzers that have differential comparator inputs. This circuit, with one two-input gate and three ancillary transistors, is useful where size or cost must be minimized.

Neural Theories of Simple Visual Discriminations*†
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1963Simple visual discriminations such as detection of presence and recognition of small differences in the spatial and temporal patterns of objects have been explained in some detail in recent years by variants of the physical quantum theory. The present paper summarizes the status of an alternative group of theories, which is classed as neural, primarily

The Psychological Record, 1995
This study examined whether nonreinforced contiguous presentation of visual stimuli by means of complex stimuli in a simple discrimination context would lead to emergent simple and conditional relations between the complex elements. Eight preschool children were taught identity-matching with four different colors and two simple discrimination tasks, A1/

Effects of stimulus complexity on simple spatial discriminations
Spatial Vision, 1990We have extended previous measurements on the detection of a target, differentiated in orientation or magnification from a number of identical reference elements. In these new experiments, we have used more than one class of reference element from which the target must be discriminated.

A Simple Method for Testing Odor Detection and Discrimination in Chicks
Physiology & Behavior, 1999A simple procedure for testing newly hatched chicks' responses to olfactory stimuli is described. Chicks that were hand held under a heatlamp became inactive and closed their eyes (as if asleep) within 2 min. Sleeping chicks displayed overt behavioral responses to an odorized q-tip (head shaking, beak clapping) that were not observed in awake chicks ...

Chiral discrimination by simple gas sensors
Proceedings of International Solid State Sensors and Actuators Conference (Transducers '97), 2002The discrimination of optical isomers (enantiomers) in the gas phase has been performed using thickness shear mode resonators (TSMRs). The selective coatings included both enantiomers ((S)- and (R)-receptor) of a Chirasil-Val(R)-derivative (stationary phase material in gas chromatography (GC)) with octyl-side chains.

Intensity discrimination of simple and complex stimuli
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1981Difference limens (DLs) were measured at 30, 60, and 75 dB SPL per critical band. The stimuli were a 1000-Hz tone, a partially-masked 1000-Hz tone, an 18-tone complex consisting of equally intense harmonics (F0 = 110 Hz) encompassing frequencies from 110 to 7260 Hz, and a uniformly masking noise.

Simple and complex discrimination learning.
2013My goal is to provide a general introduction to current behavior-analytic perspectives and methodology concerning simple and complex discrimination. My intended audience is broad—professional scientists and clinicians of all disciplines who want an informed introduction to relevant behavior-analytic methods and theory, students who are in the process ...

Emergent simple discrimination in children: role of contiguity
Behavioural Processes, 1990Sixteen five- to seven-year-old children were exposed to two colour-form compounds. The compounds were presented successively. Pointing to the compounds was reinforced. Eight children received compounds A1B1 and A2B2; the others A1B2 and A2B1. This task was mixed with a two-choice discrimination task that provided the colours A1 and A2 simultaneously ...
