A Simple Regularization Procedure for Discriminant Analysis

Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2006
Linear and quadratic discriminant analysis are likely to lead to unstable models and poor predictions in the presence of quasicolinearity among variables or in the case of the small sample and high-dimensional setting. A simple regularization procedure is proposed to cope with this problem.

A Simple Analysis of the Foster-Seely Discriminator

IEEE Transactions on Broadcast and Television Receivers, 1970
This paper presents a simple, straightforward analysis of a Foster-Seeley discriminator. Because this analysis differs from the classical approach, it can be seen that there are two distinct sources of distortion. These sources are the resonant circuit of the discriminator and the output portion of the circuit. An analytic proof of the linearity of the

Stability of Emergent Simple Discriminations in Young Children

Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1994
This study compared two procedures for establishing and reversing stimulus control transfer across simple discriminations in children. One procedure, stimulus contiguity, started with training of a color discrimination task, red omega (S+) vs yellow omega (S-).

A simple pulse-shape discrimination circuit

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1974
Abstract A simple pulse-shape discrimination circuit is described. Some results are presented for NE213 organic liquid scintillators of different sizes. The influence of the lower threshold energy and the effect of high counting rates on the pulse-shape discrimination properties are shown.

An analysis of emergent simple discrimination in children.

The Quarterly journal of experimental psychology. B, Comparative and physiological psychology, 1990
In Experiment 1 eight five-year-old children received an arbitrary matching-to-sample task with sample stimuli A1 and A2 and comparison stimuli B1 and B2. This task was mixed with a simple, two-choice discrimination task with stimuli A1 and A2. In subsequent tests with B1 and B2 presented alone, the number of responses to B1 was greater when it had ...

Side information for the discrimination of simple hypotheses

2012
A problem of conditional hypothesis discrimination is considered. A sample of joint observations (x$_{i}$, y$_{i}$) is taken. The x$_{i}$-observations are used only as side information for discrimination. Comparisons are made with standard Neyman Pearson theory. This paper is meant as a contribution towards a theory of multi-terminal decision making.
