Cancer cell‐intrinsic type 1 interferon: production, signaling, and outcomes within sex‐biased, female malignancies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cell‐autonomous roles of interferon type 1 vary based on duration and intensity. While acute, robust signaling results in cancer cell cytotoxic effects, sustained, low‐level signaling is associated with tumor‐promoting effects. This review summarizes current research of IFN‐1 in cancer and within the clinical setting, with an emphasis on female ...

Movement Disorders in Aicardi–Goutières Syndrome and Response to Immunomodulation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterizes movement disorders and treatment responses in seven children with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome (AGS). We retrospectively evaluated motor phenotypes, neuroimaging, and interferon signatures in patients treated with baricitinib or anifrolumab. Spasticity affected all patients, while dystonia was present in 4/7.

Cross-species utility of microsatellite loci for the genetic characterisation of Anisakis berlandi (Nematoda: Anisakidae)

open access: yesParasite, 2020
Eight microsatellite loci, recently developed in the species Anisakis pegreffii, were successfully amplified in Anisakis berlandi, sibling species of the A. simplex (s. l.) complex. They were validated on adult specimens (n = 46) of the parasite species,

SIMPLEX: Multiple phase-cycled bSSFP quantitative magnetization transfer imaging with physic-guided simulation learning of neural network

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2023
Most quantitative magnetization transfer (qMT) imaging methods require acquiring additional quantitative maps (such as T1) for data fitting. A method based on multiple phase-cycled bSSFP was recently proposed to enable high-resolution 3D qMT imaging ...

The Case of a 40‐Year‐Old Man With New‐Onset Status Epilepticus in the Setting of HIV Infection

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 40‐year‐old man from Andhra Pradesh in India, while on regular antiretroviral treatment (ART) for long‐standing HIV infection presented with a 1‐day history of new‐onset status epilepticus. CT and MRI brain showed multifocal cerebral ring lesions, some of which demonstrated characteristic ‘hole‐with‐a‐dot’ sign.

Supramolecular Polymer‐Surfactant Co‐Assemblies for Multivalent HSV‐1 Inhibition

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Non‐covalent co‐assembly of BTA with antiviral surfactants produces ratio‐dependent morphologies. Fibrous supramolecular polymers exhibit superior HSV‐1 inhibition, revealing multivalent fiber‐virus interactions and highlighting supramolecular co‐assemblies as a powerful strategy for functional biomedical nanomaterials with demonstrated tunable ...

Portable Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Sensor for Rapid Swab‐Based Detection of Norovirus

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports a rapid, portable smartphone‐based sensor capable of detecting four norovirus genotypes from swab samples within 15 min. Sensor selectivity was validated through evaluation against four common live viruses. The swab‐based sampling process enabled simple sample preparation combined with the compact detection system, supporting use of ...

The calcitonin receptor gene is a candidate for regulation of susceptibility to herpes simplex type 1 neuronal infection leading to encephalitis in rat. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) is a fatal infection of the central nervous system (CNS) predominantly caused by Herpes simplex virus type 1. Factors regulating the susceptibility to HSE are still largely unknown.
