Mixing characteristics of sludge simulant in a model anaerobic digester
Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering, 2016This study aims to investigate the mixing characteristics of a transparent sludge simulant in a mechanically agitated model digester using flow visualisation technique. Video images of the flow patterns were obtained by recording the progress of an acid-base reaction and analysed to determine the active and inactive volumes as a function of time.

Breakdown of Large Particles in Forage by Simulated Digestion and Detrition
Journal of Animal Science, 1988To determine the importance of digestion and detrition (rubbing) in the rumen on the breakdown of large particles (LP) in the leaf and stem fractions of temperate and tropical forages, a study was made using a digestion-detrition simulator. Large-particle breakdown was measured in forage samples subjected to 48-h digestion or 48-h digestion plus ...

The action of simulated and true weightlessness on the digestive tract of rats
Advances in Space Research, 1981Rats on board the Soviet Cosmos 936 satellite for l8 1/2 days showed a decreased glycoprotein secretion from the salivary mucous glands, stomach and intestine, and an increased leucine aminopeptidase and acid phosphatase content from the small intestine. Grimelius positive cells were activated.

Bioaccessibility of curcuminoids in buttermilk in simulated gastrointestinal digestion models
Food Chemistry, 2015In vitro gastrointestinal digestion models were used to investigate bioaccessibility of curcuminoids delivered with buttermilk. The percentage of solubilised curcuminoids that partitioned into the micelle in aqueous phase was determined. In fasted states (0-2.5 mg bile extract/mL sample), the bioaccessibility of curcuminoids (2% v/v ethanol) ranged ...

[Endoscopy simulator for training in digestive endoscopy].
Casopis lekaru ceskych, 2012This paper reports on a computer-based simulator (GI Mentor II) used for initial training in digestive endoscopy. The highly sophisticated apparatus employs real endoscopes and virtual accessories. The training programme starts with a group of exercises, specially designed to enhance eye-hand coordination.

Laboratory Simulation of Anaerobic Digestion of Municipal Solid Waste
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2004Landfill processes were simulated in lab-scale bioreactors--lysimeters. The changes in leachate characteristics as well as the influence of the leachate recirculation on the processes taking place in the landfill were investigated. Lysimeters were filled with material simulating municipal waste in the city of Lodz, Poland.
