Stability and Changes in Antioxidant Activity of Theaflavins during Digestion and Their Regulatory Effects on Microecology

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
To investigate the digestion characteristics of theaflavins (TFs) and their effects on oral and gut microbiota, this study simulated gastrointestinal digestion in vitro, measuring changes in TFs content and antioxidant activity during digestion, and ...

Effect of pre-aeration and inoculum on the start-up of batch thermophilic anaerobic digestion of municipal solid waste [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this study, a short pre-aeration step was investigated as pre-treatment for thermophilic anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW).

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

In Vitro Antioxidant Activity Determination of a Microencapsulated Synergic Polyphenols—Polysaccharide Mixture

open access: yesChemistry Proceedings, 2022
The aim of this work was to obtain a mixture of polyphenols and polysaccharides, extracted from forest fruit pomace (a side stream of forest fruit juice production) and chia seeds with a synergic antioxidant activity that will be further encapsulated and

Invisible but not inaccessible—Revealing transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins with solution NMR and complementary methods

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins may be ‘invisible’ to direct detection yet remain accessible to solution NMR through equilibrium‐exchange measurements and pressure‐jump experiments. Complementary methods report on mass, stoichiometry, selected distance distributions, morphology, and internal packing.

Solid Loss of Carrots During Simulated Gastric Digestion [PDF]

open access: yesFood Biophysics, 2010
The knowledge of solid loss kinetics of foods during digestion is crucial for understanding the factors that constrain the release of nutrients from the food matrix and their fate of digestion. The objective of this study was to investigate the solid loss of carrots during simulated gastric digestion as affected by pH, temperature, viscosity of gastric

Rapid start-up of thermophilic anaerobic digestion with the turf fraction of MSW as inoculum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study aims to determine suitable start-up conditions and inoculum sources for thermophilic anaerobic digestion. Within days of incubation MSW at 55°C, methane was produced at a high rate.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.
