Two Monte Carlo studies for latent class segmentation models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Model assessment and comparison are essential aspects of statistical inference. The likelihood ratio test is one of the main instruments for model selection; however, this is not appropriate when the model under consideration contains random effects.

Genetic diversity and population structure of the Taigan dog breed

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The Taigan is a rare sighthound from the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. We used DNA markers to study its genetic diversity and compare it with other sighthound breeds. Our findings show that the Taigan shares close genetic ties with the Kazakh Tazy, suggesting a common ancestry shaped by nomadic traditions and regional adaptation.

Valuing American Options by Simulation: A Simple Least-Squares Approach

open access: yes, 2001
This article presents a simple yet powerful new approach for approximating the value of American options by simulation. The key to this approach is the use of least squares to estimate the conditional expected payoff to the optionholder from continuation.

Modeling and Simulation of Molecular Communication Systems with a Reversible Adsorption Receiver [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we present an analytical model for the diffusive molecular communication (MC) system with a reversible adsorption receiver in a fluid environment. The widely used concentration shift keying (CSK) is considered for modulation.

Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

Promoting leadership and communication skills in emergency medicine residents: the role of High-Fidelity Simulation

open access: yesEmergency Care Journal
The residency program in Emergency Medicine should include formal training in Non-Technical Skills (NTS). We evaluated the effectiveness of a program based on High-Fidelity Simulation (HFS) to improve the leadership and communication skills of residents
