Monolayer charged quantum films: A quantum simulation study

open access: yes, 2005
We use path-integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) to study the effects of adding a long-range repulsive Coulomb interaction to the usual Van der Waals interaction between two atoms of a submonolayer quantum film such as helium on graphite or a pure two-dimensional

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

SNP-based heritability estimation using a Bayesian approach

open access: yesAnimal, 2013
Heritability is a central element in quantitative genetics. New molecular markers to assess genetic variance and heritability are continually under development. The availability of molecular single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers can be applied for

CosmicGrowth Simulations—Cosmological simulations for structure growth studies [PDF]

open access: yesScience China Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy, 2018
I present a large set of high resolution simulations, called CosmicGrowth Simulations, which were generated with either 8.6 billion or 29 billion particles. As the nominal cosmological model that can match nearly all observations on cosmological scales, I have adopted a flat Cold Dark Matter (CDM) model with a cosmological constant $ $ ($ $CDM).

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Computer Simulation Study of the Levy Flight Process

open access: yes, 2010
Random walk simulation of the Levy flight shows a linear relation between the mean square displacement and time. We have analyzed different aspects of this linearity.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Quantum simulation of the Schwinger model: A study of feasibility

open access: yes, 2014
We analyze some crucial questions regarding the practical feasibility of quantum simulation for lattice gauge models. Our analysis focuses on two models suitable for the quantum simulation of the Schwinger Hamiltonian, or QED in 1+1 dimensions, which we ...

Mode Coupling and Dynamical Heterogeneity in Colloidal Gelation: A Simulation Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We present simulation results addressing the dynamics of a colloidal system with attractive interactions close to gelation. Our interaction also has a soft, long range repulsive barrier which suppresses liquid-gas type phase separation at long ...
