Simultaneous nitrification–denitrification in slow sand filters

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2003
While the ability of slow sand filters to remove total suspended solids (SS), turbidity, and organics from wastewaters is well known, this study has demonstrated that they can also achieve simultaneous nitrification-denitrification, producing effluent total Kjedahl nitrogen (TKN) and total nitrogen (TN) concentrations as low as 0.6 and 1.5mg/l ...

SIMULTANEOUS NITRIFICATION-DENITRIFICATION AND CLARIFICATION IN PSEUDOLIQUIFIED ACTIVATED SLUDGE SYSTEM

Proceedings of the Water Environment Federation, 2002
This paper describes results from a pilot study of a novel wastewater treatment technology, which incorporates nutrient removal and solids separation to a single step. The pseudoliquified activated sludge process pilot system was tested on grit removal effluent at flowrates of 29.4 to 54.7 m3/d, three different solid residence times (SRT) (15, 37, and ...

Production of nitrite in soil by simultaneous nitrification and denitrification

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1996
Abstract Recent studies have shown relatively high nitrite concentrations occurring in soil. The contribution to nitrite accumulation of the two major source processes, nitrification and denitrification, was studied by differential 15N-labelling of nitrate and ammonium pools in soils incubated at a range of moisture contents.

Simultaneous nitrification‐denitrification in a rotating biological contactor

Environmental Technology, 1994
Abstract Simultaneous nitrification\aerobic denitrification studies of a high strength synthetic nitrogenous fertilizer wastewater in a single stage were carried out using a rotating biological contactor (RBC). Mixed culture biofilm consisting of Nitrifiers and Thiosphaera pantotropha (a heterotrophic nitrifier and aerobic denitrifier) was acclimated ...

Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in a mixed methanotrophic culture

Biotechnology Letters, 2001
Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification using a mixed methanotrophic culture was investigated. When both NO3 −-N (108 mg l−1) and NH3-N (59 mg l−1) were added into batch reactors, nitrate removal was complete within 10 h at the rate of 47 mg NO3 −-N g VSS−1 day−1 when dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration was maintained at 2 mg DO l−1.

Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in membrane bioreactor: Effect of dissolved oxygen

Journal of Environmental Management, 2022
Membrane bioreactor with the floc activated sludge (mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) = 7500 mg/L) was constructed in this work for simultaneously nitrification and denitrification (SND). The effect of dissolved oxygen (DO) on SND process and the nitrogen pathways were investigated. The average TN removal efficiencies were 63.05%, 91.17%, 87.04% and

Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification in Biofilm-Electrode Reactor

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
To study the nitrification and denitrification in compartmented biofilm-electrode reactor (C-BER) under limited oxygen, influence of mild electrolysis on nitrogen removal was investigated under low C/N (mole ratios) with dissolved oxygen about 1mg/ L. It was found that nitrogen removal was mainly through simultaneous nitrification and denitrification ...

Study on Simultaneous Nitrification–Denitrification in Membrane Bioreactor

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of membrane bioreactors (MBR) for organics and nitrogen removal. The membrane bioreactor was fed with domestic sewage and operated at different contents of dissolved oxygen (DO), different hydraulic retention time (HRT), and various mixed liquor suspended solid (MLSS) concentrations.

Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification in Lake Erken Sediments

1985
The nitrification-denitrification sequence in surface sediments was studied in situ using 15N-technique. The rates of denitrification were independent of whether ammonium or nitrate was added as labelled source. The denitrification subsesuentlto nitrification decreased from July to December from 9 to 1 mg.m−2.d−1 of N2.

Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification by diverse Diaphorobacter sp.

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2007
Eight bacterial isolates closely related to Diaphorobacter sp. were isolated from activated biomass surviving on wastewater laden with dyes and nitro-substituted chemicals and were identified by 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The isolates showed sequence similarity of 99-100% to other Diaphorobacter strains such as ZY 2006b, F2, NA5, PCA039, D ...
