Correcting Apparent Priming Bias Unveils Fertilizer Nitrogen‐Risk Archetypes of Surplus and Depletion Across Asian Rice Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Correcting the apparent priming effect resolves systematic biases in Asian rice fertilizer nitrogen accounting. Net soil retention drops below 7%, while 48% of fertilizer escapes, inflicting US$98.53 billion in annual reactive‐nitrogen damages. High‐resolution mapping uncovers N‐risk archetypes across 42% of the rice area, delivering a spatially ...

Nitrogen removal capability and mechanism of a novel low-temperature-tolerant simultaneous nitrification-denitrification bacterium Acinetobacter kyonggiensis AKD4

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
A low-temperature-tolerant simultaneous nitrification-denitrification bacterial strain of Acinetobacter kyonggiensis (AKD4) was identified. It showed high efficiency in total nitrogen (TN) removal (92.45% at 10°C and 87.51% at 30°C), indicating its ...

Simultaneous Partial Nitrification and Denitrification Maintained in Membrane Bioreactor for Nitrogen Removal and Hydrogen Autotrophic Denitrification for Further Treatment

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Low C/N wastewater results from a wide range of factors that significantly harm the environment. They include insufficient carbon sources, low denitrification efficiency, and NH4+-N concentrations in low C/N wastewater that are too high to be treated. In

Effect of sludge age on simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in membrane bioreactor

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2011
This study evaluated the effect of sludge age on simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in a membrane bioreactor treating black water. A membrane bioreactor with no separate anoxic volume was operated at a sludge age of 20 days under low dissolved oxygen concentration of 0.1-0.2mg/L.

Adaptive Responses of Tropical Crops: A Multi‐Scale Omics Integrated Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tropical crops integrate genomic, morphological, physiological, and ecological adaptations to thrive under extreme and variable environments. This review highlights how natural selection, domestication, and breeding shape stress resilience, resource‐use strategies, and productivity in sugarcane, banana, cassava, rubber and oil palm, offering new routes

Evaluation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sludge Characteristics in Typical AAO Process WWTPs in Taihu Lake Basin, China

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigated sludge characteristics and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from 16 anaerobic‐anoxic‐oxic (AAO) process wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), 11 municipal and 5 industrial WWTPs, located in the Taihu Lake Basin, China. Influent/effluent water quality, sludge properties, operational parameters, GHG emission patterns, and ...

Biochar‐based fertilizers improve nutrient use efficiency in sunflower grown on a subtropical tidal soil

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Improving fertilizer use efficiency is essential for reducing environmental pollution, sustaining agricultural production, and maximizing the economic profitability of crop production systems. This study tested the hypothesis that the formulation strategy of biochar‐based fertilizers, rather than nutrient addition alone, is associated with ...

Nitrification and simultaneous denitrification byAzospirillum brasilense 12S

open access: yesJournal of Biosciences, 1987
Azospirillum brasilense, an associative diazotrophs from sorghum roots grows autotrophically on NH 4 + and CaCO3. NH 4 + a is also oxidized to NO 2 - and then denitrified. Addition of malate to the autotrophic medium enhances both NH 4 + oxidation as well as NONH 2 - dissimilation.
