Acute Sin Nombre Hantavirus Infection without Pulmonary Syndrome, United States

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 1999
Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) occurs in most infections with Sin Nombre virus and other North American hantaviruses. We report five cases of acute hantavirus infection that did not fit the HPS case definition.

Unraveling the Mechanistic Links Between Species Diversity and Infection Risk From Zoonotic Pathogens With Direct Transmission Among Reservoir Hosts: Rodent‐Orthohantavirus Systems as Models

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2025.
In this review, we synthesize mechanistic evidence for diversity‐disease patterns in rodent‐orthohantavirus systems in the Americas, models of directly transmitted disease systems. We found that host regulation has been examined the most while other mechanisms have received less attention. Based on our findings, we propose that for a negative diversity‐

Population Dynamics of the Deer Mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) and Sin Nombre Virus, California Channel Islands

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 1997
Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, first documented in 1993, is caused by Sin Nombre virus (SNV), which is carried by the Peromyscus species. In 1994, high SNV antibody prevalence was identified in deer mice from two California Channel Islands.

¿Podría el hantavirus Seúl ser una etiología de la enfermedad febril aguda indiferenciada en Colombia?

open access: yesRevista Mvz Cordoba, 2021
Los hantavirus se clasifican en dos grupos principales, hantavirus del Viejo Mundo' y del ''Nuevo Mundo' debido a la distribución geográfica de sus reservorios (roedores) (1).

Andes virus and sin nombre virus: Similarities and distinctive features

open access: yesBioinformation
The threat of hanta virus infection has come to the forefront in recent weeks, following the outbreak of the Andes virus aboard the Dutch-flagged MV Hondius cruise ship during its Spring 2026 voyage. Several passengers and crew members got infected because Andes virus is the sole known hanta virus to trigger human-to-human infection.

Hantavirus Transmission in the United States

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 1997
In 1996, investigation of a hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) outbreak in southern Argentina found evidence of person-to-person transmission of a hantavirus.

Zoonotic Infections in Communities of the James Bay Cree Territory: An Overview of Seroprevalence

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2013
The Cree communities of James Bay are at risk for contracting infectious diseases transmitted by wildlife. Data from serological testing for a range of zoonotic infections performed in the general population (six communities), or trappers and their ...

Cloning and characterization of deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) cytokine and chemokine cDNAs

open access: yesBMC Immunology, 2004
Background Sin Nombre virus (SNV) establishes a persistent infection in the deer mouse, Peromyscus maniculatus. A strong antibody response occurs in response to SNV infection, but the role of the innate immune response is unclear.
