Peptide composition of Sindbis virus variants
Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1970The peptide composition of variants of Sindbis virus which differ in plaque-type, elution pattern from calcium phosphate columns and virulence in mice was analyzed. Differences in peptide number or composition were not detected in these variants. Since the Sindbis virion has an outer lipoprotein envelope which is derived at least in part from the ...

Immunochemical studies of Sindbis virus variants
Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1973We have demonstrated that the small plaque (SP) variant of Sindbis virus is more extensively neutralized by complete antibody and serum IgG fractions than is the large plaque (LP) variant. The Fc portion failed to demonstrate any neutralizing potential and did not block subsequent neutralization by IgG or Fab fragments.

Antiidiotypic antibodies as probes for the sindbis virus receptor
Virology, 1991Rabbit polyclonal antiidiotypic antibodies were made to mouse monoclonal antibodies that neutralize the infectivity of Sindbis virus. One of the antiidiotypic antisera obtained has properties characteristic of an antireceptor antiserum. It binds to the surface of chicken cells as shown by immunofluorescence and partially blocks virus binding to these ...

Investigations on the formation and interconversion of Sindbis virus hemagglutinins
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1968Three hemagglutinins were separated by equilibrium density centrifugation in CsCl of Sindbis concentrates obtained from infected chick-embryo cultures. They were designated heavy fraction (HF, density 1.240 g/ml), intermediate fraction (IF, density 1.212 g/ml), and light fraction (LF, density 1.191 g/ml).

Infection of baby hamster kidney cells by Sindbis virus, an alphavirus, resulted in a decrease in the intracellular pH of approximately 0.5 units within the first 1-2 hr after infection as measured either by equilibrium labeling with [14C]benzoic acid or by use of a pH-sensitive fluorescent probe, 2,7-bis-carboxyethyl-5,6-carboxyfluorescein ...

Host-cell receptors for Sindbis virus
1994Sindbis virus has a very wide host range, infecting many species of mosquitoes and other hematophagous insects and infecting many species of higher vertebrates. We have used two approaches to study host cell receptors used by Sindbis virus to enter cells.
