Quasi-single mode operated few-mode fiber for distributed acoustic sensing

open access: yes, 2019
We experimentally report a proof-of-concept demonstration of a few-mode fiber (FMF) based distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) design, aiming at upgrading the capabilities of the typical DAS that employs the standard single mode fiber (SMF).

Investigations of mode control in proton-implanted and oxide-confined VCSELs using PBGs: modelling and experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We have investigated theoretically the influence on transverse optical modes of a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) defect waveguide embedded into a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser.

Cavity QED quantum phase gates for a single longitudinal mode of the intracavity field [PDF]

open access: yesEQEC '05. European Quantum Electronics Conference, 2005., 2004
A single three-level atom driven by a longitudinal mode of a high-Q cavity is used to implement two-qubit quantum phase gates for the intracavity field. The two qubits are associated to the zero-and one-photon Fock states of each of the two opposite circular polarization states of the field.

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Inverse scattering designs of dispersion-engineered single-mode planar waveguides

open access: yes
We use an inverse-scattering (IS) approach to design single-mode waveguides with controlled linear and higher-order dispersion. The technique is based on a numerical solution to the Gelfand-Levitan-Marchenko integral equation, for the inversion of ...

On the experience and evidence about mixing modes of data collection in large-scale surveys where the web is used as one of the modes in data collection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents experience and evidence, from international sources, of the effects on survey quality of the use of mixed modes in data collection, where the web is used as one of the modes.

Transverse stress rupture properties of a third generation single crystal superalloy at medium and elevated temperatures

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2020
At the conditions of 760℃/800 MPa, 980℃/250 MPa and 1100℃/137 MPa, the transv-erse stress rupture properties of a nickel-based third generation single crystal superalloy were investigated.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Compound four-cavity single-longitudinal mode fiber laser

open access: yesOptics Express
A compound resonant cavity-type single longitudinal mode erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed and verified in this paper. We use a compound four-cavity to expand the longitudinal mode spacing of the laser and a homemade grating F-P filter and a saturable absorber to narrow the gain spectral bandwidth, enabling the laser to operate in a single-frequency

Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Adult Learning in STEM Disciplines

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are reshaping adult learning in STEM by providing adaptive, data‐driven instruction across classrooms, workplaces, and informal environments. In the context of ITS, this article compares generative AI, which creates personalized explanations and practice materials, with explainable AI, which focuses on ...
