Single-Mode Fiber-Type Polarizer
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1982The simple and novel fabrication technique of the fiber-type polarizer has been demonstrated and the polarization characteristics of the polarizer have been investigated. The polarizer structure consists of the eccentric core and the metal coat on the thin buffer layer whose thickness is controlled by chemical etching.

All-single-mode fiber resonator
Optics Letters, 1982An all-fiber-ring resonator has been constructed using a single strand of single-mode optical fiber and a directional coupler. Derivation of the resonator finesse in terms of fiber and directional coupler parameters is given. A finesse of 80 has been achieved experimentally. Applications of such a fiber-ring resonator are discussed.

Without additional frequency selecting elements, most lasers utilizing linear resonators emit at several axial modes. A resonator operating in a single transverse mode, exhibits a frequency spectrum which consists of multiple lines. If we neglect the frequency pulling induced by the gain profile, these emission lines are spectrally separated by c 0/(2L)

Single-mode-fiber saturable absorber
Optics Letters, 1984Saturable absorption is performed on a signal in a single-mode fiber by allowing the evanescent field of the guided wave to interact with a saturable-absorbing dye. The evanescent field is exposed by mechanically removing a portion of the fiber cladding. The saturable material is then placed in close proximity to the fiber core.

This chapter develops the computational algorithm for determining the most probable value (MPV) and covariance matrix of modal parameters in Bayesian operational modal analysis with data in a single setup and for well-separated modes. The MPV of the mode shape is analytically derived in terms of other parameters, which effectively reduces the numerical

Single mode optical fiber sensors
1995Single mode fibers are used for sensing when extreme sensitivity is required or when a well defined polarization of light is needed at a remote sensing point. Most sensors which use single mode fibers are of the intrinsic type (i.e. the action of the measurand on the light occurs within the fiber itself). The sensitivity advantage of single mode fibers
