Optimizing aerodynamic lenses for single-particle imaging [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Aerosol Science, 2018
A numerical simulation infrastructure capable of calculating the flow of gas and the trajectories of particles through an aerodynamic lens injector is presented. The simulations increase the fundamental understanding and predict optimized injection geometries and parameters.

Single particle raster image analysis of diffusion

Journal of Microscopy, 2016
SummaryAs a complement to the standard RICS method of analysing Raster Image Correlation Spectroscopy images with estimation of the image correlation function, we introduce the method SPRIA, Single Particle Raster Image Analysis. Here, we start by identifying individual particles and estimate the diffusion coefficient for each particle by a maximum ...

Excited-State Imaging of Single Particles on the Subnanometer Scale

Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, 2020
At the intersection of spectroscopy and microscopy lie techniques that are capable of providing subnanometer imaging of excited states of individual molecules or nanoparticles. Such approaches are particularly important for imaging macromolecules or nanoparticles large enough to have a high probability of containing a defect.

Fast rotational matching of single-particle images

Journal of Structural Biology, 2005
The presence of noise and absence of contrast in electron micrographs lead to a reduced resolution of the final 3D reconstruction, due to the inherent limitations of single-particle image alignment. The fast rotational matching (FRM) algorithm was introduced recently for an accurate alignment of 2D images under such challenging conditions.

Single-particle imaging for biosensor applications

Emerging Imaging and Sensing Technologies for Security and Defence II, 2017
Current state-of-the-art technology for in-vitro diagnostics employ laboratory tests such as ELISA that consists of a multi-step test procedure and give results in analog format. Results of these tests are interpreted by the color change in a set of diluted samples in a multi-well plate.

Single-Particle Imaging of Anion Exchange Reactions in Cuprous Oxide

ACS Nano, 2021
Ion exchange is a predominant and flexible route to tailor the composition and crystal structure of various materials. In situ monitoring of the ion exchange process at the single-particle level is critical to better understand the reaction mechanism and engineer high-performance materials.

Single-particle imaging

2007
The current status of single-particle X-ray imaging - or "X-ray crystallography without need for a crystal" - is reviewed, with particular emphasis on the Stony Brook/Cornell/Berkeley single yeast cell imaging project. Two-dimensional (2D) images of a quick-frozen yeast cell have been obtained with a resolution which, if carried out in three ...

Ultrahigh-Throughput Single-Particle Hyperspectral Imaging of Gold Nanoparticles

Analytical Chemistry, 2023
Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have become increasingly useful in recent years for their roles in nanomedicine, cellular biology, energy storage and conversion, photocatalysis, and more. At the single-particle level, AuNPs have heterogeneous physical and chemical properties which are not resolvable in ensemble measurements.

Lanthanide‐Doped Upconversion Nanoparticles for Single‐Particle Imaging

ChemBioChem
Lanthanide‐doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) have recently demonstrated great promise in single‐particle imaging (SPI) due to their exceptional photostability and minimal background fluorescence. However, their limited brightness has posed a significant barrier to wider adoption in SPI applications.

Diffractive Imaging of Single Particles

2019
The computational methods and applications of diffractive (lensless) imaging are reviewed. Far-field scattering (e. g., by neutrons, electrons, light, or x-rays) by a nonperiodic localized potential is detected and the phase problem solved using iterative optimization methods, which allows a three-dimensional image of the object potential to be ...
