The Microstructure and High‐temperature Cycle Oxidation Mechanism of the Nickel‐Based Superalloy Surface Treated by Laser Shock Processing and Ion Implantation at 1100 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 3, 3 February 2026.
Laser shock processingcombination with Hf ion implantation results in dual modification on the surface of GH202 nickel‐based superalloy, which induces a large number of crystal defects, providing channels for the diffusion of metal cations. Hf ion implantation forms an amorphous HfO2 layer.

Clean recycling of spent nickel-based single-crystal superalloy by molten magnesium

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Nickel-based single-crystal superalloys are designed for extreme conditions due to their superior corrosion and creep resistance properties. However, these pose challenges in the subsequent recycling after reaching their end-of-life. Molten magnesium (Mg)

Multicomponent Rare‐Earth Monosilicate Reactions With Calcium‐Magnesium Aluminosilicate

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT High‐temperature reactions of multicomponent rare‐earth monosilicates (REMS) with calcium‐magnesium aluminosilicate (CMAS) were investigated at 1300°C for 24 h. Three compositional series were tested, each ranging from 1‐cation to 4‐cation REMS, with cations selected to interrogate compositional effects on CMAS reactivity. The final members of

Prediction of recrystallisation in single crystal nickel-based superalloys during investment casting

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2014
Production of gas turbines for jet propulsion and power generation requires the manufacture of turbine blades from single crystal nickel-based superalloys, most typically using investment casting.

Application of single crystal superalloys for Earth-to-orbit propulsion systems [PDF]

open access: yes
Single crystal superalloys were first identified as potentially useful engineering materials for aircraft gas turbine engines in the mid-1960's. Although they were not introduced into service as turbine blades in commercial aircraft engines until the ...

Biaxial constitutive equation development [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
In developing the constitutive equations an interdisciplinary approach is being pursued. Specifically, both metallurgical and continuum mechanics considerations are recognized in the formulation.

On the structure of defects in the Fe7Mo6 $\mu$-Phase

open access: yes, 2019
Topologically close packed phases, among them the $\mu$-phase studied here, are commonly considered as being hard and brittle due to their close packed and complex structure.

Effect of Mo:W ratio on segregation behavior and creep strength of nickel-based single crystal superalloys

open access: yesMaterials Science & Engineering: A, 2019
In past decades, molybdenum (Mo) has demonstrated the potential to replace tungsten (W) in designing lighter nickel-based single crystal superalloys with enhanced creep resistance. In this research, three groups of nickel-based single crystal superalloys

Heat Capacity Measurements and Thermodynamic Assessment of the Y2O3–Ta2O5 System

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Phase equilibria in the Y2O3–Ta2O5 system play an important role in the development of new materials for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications, with higher thermal stability resulting in more efficient gas turbines with reduced exhaust gas emissions.
