It has been shown that there are not only transverse but also longitudinal couplings between microwave fields and a superconducting qubit with broken inversion symmetry of the potential energy. Using multiphoton processes induced by longitudinal coupling

Exploring multi-stability in semiconductor ring lasers: theory and experiment [PDF]
We report the first experimental observation of multi-stable states in a single-longitudinal mode semiconductor ring laser. We show how the operation of the device can be steered to either monostable, bistable or multi-stable dynamical regimes in a ...

Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Competition and bistability of longitudinal modes in a Raman laser [PDF]
A model for Raman lasers including several longitudinal modes is analyzed. Depending on the choice of the parameters the system can exhibit single-mode emission, wide bistability domains, and self-pulsing.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Single-growth embedded epitaxy AlGaAs injection lasers with extremely low threshold currents [PDF]
A new type of strip-geometry AlGaAs double-heterostructure laser with an embedded optical waveguide has been developed. The new structure is fabricated using a single step of epitaxial growth. Lasers with threshold currents as low as 9.5 mA (150 µm long)
