Investigation on Single-Mode-Multimode-Single-Mode Fiber Structure
2011 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics (SOPO), 2011The multimode interference (MMI) theory and corresponding re-imaging phenomena occurring in a single - mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) fiber structure is investigated. And the commercially available beam propagation method (BPM) have been adapted and analyzed to model the light propagation in this structure.

Single-Mode–Multimode–Single-Mode Optical Fiber Sensing Structure With Quasi-Two-Mode Fibers
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2018This paper reviews some aspects of optical fiber sensors based on a single-mode (SM)-multimode (MM)-SM structure and reports on the realization of temperature sensors in which the MM section is made by a quasi-two mode fiber. Two different realizations are compared that rely on: 1) a bend-insensitive fiber operated in the second optical communication ...

Attaching single-mode polarization-preserving fiber to single-mode semiconductor lasers
Applied Optics, 1984The coupling of a semiconductor laser as a coherent well-polarized source to birefringent polarization-maintaining fiber is an important step in exploiting the unique characteristics of this waveguiding medium. The total light output of most semiconductor lasers is relatively poorly polarized yielding extinction ratios of the order of 10–12 dB. We wish

We calculate the self-consistent electronic structure of GaAs-${\mathrm{Al}}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{Ga}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$As split-gate quantum wires taking into account the ordering in the donor layer which occurs when the ionization fraction F is less than unity. Ordered ion distributions are generated via a Monte Carlo simulation

Couplings between Single-Mode Lasers and Single-Mode Fibers
1983This Symposium brief reports some preliminary results obtained in our laboratory in single-mode laser and single-mode fiber couplings, with a view to ascertaining a satisfactory coupling technique which possesses simultaneously a higher coupling efficiency and a weaker optical feedback.

Stress-induced single-polarization single-mode fiber
Optics Letters, 1982The stress-induced birefringence in a single-mode optical fiber with an elliptical inner cladding or an elliptical core is calculated. Then the design of a fiber is proposed in which only one linearly polarized mode can propagate.

The only active transverse mode in a truly single-mode VCSEL is the fundamental mode with a near Gaussian field distribution. A single-mode VCSEL produces a light beam of higher spectral purity, higher degree of coherence and lower divergence than a multimode VCSEL and the beam can be more precisely shaped and focused to a smaller spot.

Without additional frequency selecting elements, most lasers utilizing linear resonators emit at several axial modes. A resonator operating in a single transverse mode, exhibits a frequency spectrum which consists of multiple lines. If we neglect the frequency pulling induced by the gain profile, these emission lines are spectrally separated by c 0/(2L)

This chapter develops the computational algorithm for determining the most probable value (MPV) and covariance matrix of modal parameters in Bayesian operational modal analysis with data in a single setup and for well-separated modes. The MPV of the mode shape is analytically derived in terms of other parameters, which effectively reduces the numerical
