El singular, la práctica y la incertidumbre de la razón

open access: yesTópicos, 2013
Llano's work suggests that concepts are mere auxiliaries in the knowledge of individuals and that this knowledge is determined by the claims of some human practical activities.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Strong singularity of singular masas in II1 factors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A singular masa A in a II1 factor N is defined by the property that any unitary w ∈ N for which A=wAw* must lie in A. A strongly singular masa A is one that satisfies the inequality ||EA- EwAw*||∞,2 ≥||w- EA(w)||2 for all unitaries ...

Ator em diálogo com a vida

open access: yesDAPesquisa, 2018
O artigo tem como objetivo compreender o ator em diálogo com a vida capaz de afetar e de ser afetado, da possibilidade de perceber-se anestesiado diante da produção cultural e quando necessário resistir ao que lhe é dado como ‘verdade’.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Description Length Based Signal Detection in singular Spectrum Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper provides an information theoretic analysis of the signal-noise separation problem in Singular Spectrum Analysis. We present a signal-plus-noise model based on the Karhunen-Loève expansion and use this model to motivate the construction of a ...

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.
