Sintering behavior of LZSA glass-ceramics

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2009
The LZSA glass-ceramic system (Li2O-ZrO2-SiO2-Al2O 3) shows interesting properties, such as good chemical resistance, low thermal expansion, high abrasion resistance, and a low dielectric constant.

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Synthesis of morphology controllable aluminum nitride by direct nitridation of γ-AlOOH in the presence of N2H4 and their sintering behavior

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2018
Direct nitridation process has been performed to synthesize morphology controllable aluminum nitrides (AlN). Three different morphologies of γ-AlOOH were treated under NH3 flow at 1400°C for 4 h. Hydrazine (N2H4) was employed in this study as a nitriding

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Alumina-NbC composites fabricated by spark plasma sintering

open access: yesRevista Principia, 2021
The incorporation of niobium carbide in alumina-based composites has been shown to improve the properties of composite material. The main disadvantage to get a dense composite material is the necessary high sintering temperature.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

New Alloying Systems for Sintered Steels: Critical Aspects of Sintering Behavior [PDF]

open access: yesMetallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2014
Oxygen-sensitive alloying elements such as Mn, Si, and Cr have a high potential for improving the properties of low alloyed sintered steels while reducing the alloying cost. However, it is necessary to find a way for avoiding, or at least minimizing, the oxidation of these elements especially during the early stages of the sintering cycle.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Finite element prediction of sintering deformation in 3D-printed porcelain filament

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Sintering of printed porcelain filaments can be strongly affected by overhang geometry, thin features, and printing-induced anisotropy. These effects are particularly difficult to simulate because they require accurately capturing the interplay between ...
