The direct sinus lift procedure has been in use for decades and is a reliable way to increase bone volume in the posterior maxilla, usually with the ultimate goal for implant placement. Surgeons have many grafting materials available for use including autogenous bone, allograft, xenograft, and bone morphogenic protein.

Implant Dentistry, 2005
A crestal approach for implant placement in deficient alveolar ridges is presented. The set of drills allows the surgeon to lift the membrane at the floor of the maxillary sinus with a bone disc, without the risk of tearing it. The plastic and cutting drills, respectively, are set in just below the floor of the maxillary sinus.

Management of a Perplexing Sinus Lift Complication
Journal of Periodontology, 2010Background: This case report describes a dilemma that occurred after a maxillary right lateral window sinus lift was performed. The patient developed a gnawing pain in the sinus region but manifested no signs of sinusitis, and the subjacent teeth were asymptomatic.

Complications in sinus lifting procedures: Classification and management
Periodontology 2000, 2022AbstractOpen and closed sinus lifting procedures are predictable methods to augment the bone needed for appropriate implant placement in the posterior maxilla in cases where available bone is limited. However, these techniques may give rise to complications and associated comorbidities. In the case of open sinus lifting, perforation of the Schneiderian

Sinus lift access in partial maxillectomies
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, 2014Maxillectomies often result in anatomical defects that need to be reconstructed. In partial maxillectomies, the most significant defect is the formation of an oronasal or oral-antral fistula. This creates discomfort and needs to be addressed secondarily with local or regional flaps.

ABSTRACTPurpose: The effectiveness of a Water Lift System in the sinus membrane‐lifting operation was examined. This investigation focused on the capability of this equipment to reduce the risk of Schneiderian membrane perforation.Materials and Methods: A preliminary clinical study on the use of the Water Lift System in sinus membrane elevation to ...

A Novel Aid to Elevation of the Sinus Membrane for the Sinus Lift Procedure
Implant Dentistry, 2002A maxillary sinus augmentation graft floor can increase vertical bone height for implant placement in patients with a pneumatized sinus. A simple technique can make this routine procedure even more predictable. After the sinus membrane has been adequately reflected, a cottonoid soaked with 1 carpule of 2% Lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine and left ...

Outcome of 50 consecutive sinus lift operations
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2005We report 50 patients who had sinus lift operations between 1995 and 1999 using different grafting materials [autologous bone, heterologous bone, and hydroxyapatite]. The casenote were analysed clinically (intraoperative and postoperative results and complications), radiographically (amount of augmented bone 6 months postoperatively), and ...

Application of autogenous periosteum as a membrane in sinus lifting
Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice, 2017To evaluate the success level of autogenous periosteum in sinus lifting as a barrier membrane which contributes positively to wound healing and is effective in bone formation without the risk of tissue rejection. In this study, 32 male New Zealand rabbits were used and were divided into four groups, in which eight rabbits were placed randomly.

Sinus Lift Procedures: An Overview of Current Techniques
Dental Clinics of North America, 2012For more than 30 years the maxillary sinus augmentation graft has been a mainstay of implant-directed maxillary reconstruction. The purpose of this article is to review the fundamentals of maxillary sinus reconstruction including anatomy and physiology of the sinus, indications for surgery, preoperative evaluation, surgical techniques, and management ...
