Revision of the 1844 Palestrina earthquake following the recovery of an unpublished document

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1998
The paper presented originates from the recovery of an unpublished document that reports estimated damage in the city of Palestrina (Central Italy) following the 1844 earthquake.

Modulation-assisted tunneling in laser-fabricated photonic Wannier-Stark ladders

open access: yes, 2015
We observe Wannier-Stark localization in curved photonic lattices, realized using arrays of evanescently coupled optical waveguides. By correctly tuning the strength of inter-site coupling in the lattice, we observe that Wannier-Stark states become ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A theoretical study of the cluster glass-Kondo-magnetic disordered alloys

open access: yes, 2009
The physics of disordered alloys, such as typically the well known case of CeNi1-xCux alloys, showing an interplay among the Kondo effect, the spin glass state and a magnetic order, has been studied firstly within an average description like in the ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Site effects and SPAC. results for three sites in Wainuiomata

open access: yesBulletin of the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering, 2004
We apply the SPAC method to investigate site response at three sites in the Wainuiomata valley. At each site, square arrays with a fifth station at the centre were used to record 35 minutes of ambient noise. Distance between the stations on the square and the central one were 10, 20, 40, and 80 m. The data were analyzed through the computation of cross-

Three-dimensional Migration of Neurites Is Mediated by Adhesion Site Density and Affinity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Three-dimensional neurite outgrowth rates within fibrin matrices that contained variable amounts of RGD peptides were shown to depend on adhesion site density and affinity. Bi-domain peptides with a factor XIIIa substrate in one domain and a RGD sequence

Cu Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Study of Site-Disorder and Chemical Pressure Effects on Y(Ba1-xSrx)2Cu4O8

open access: yes, 2001
We report a zero-field Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) study on the effects of nonmagnetic Sr substitution for high-Tc superconductors, Y(Ba1-xSrx)2Cu4O8 (Tc=82-80 K for x=0-0.4), using a spin-echo technique.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
