Site characterization studies for the Iranian National Observatory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We report on the Iranian National Observatory (INO) ongoing site characterization studies for INO 3.4m optical telescope under development. Iran benefits from high altitude mountains and a relatively dry climate, thus offer many suitable sites for optical observations.

Ethane/ethylene separation in a metal-organic framework with iron-peroxo sites

open access: yesScience, 2018
A preference for ethane Industrial production of ethylene requires its separation from ethane in a cryogenic process that consumes large amounts of energy. An alternative would be differential sorption in microporous materials.

Datacenter computers: modern challenges in CPU design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Computers used as datacenter servers have usage patterns that differ substantially from those of desktop or laptop computers. We discuss four key differences in usage and their first-order implications for designing computers that are particularly well ...

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

The Impact of Employment Web Sites' Traffic on Unemployment: A Cross Country Comparison [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Social Sciences and Humanity Studies Vol 5, No 2, 2013 ISSN: 1309-8063 (Online), 2014
Although employment web sites have recently become the main source for re- cruitment and selection process, the relation between those sites and unemploy- ment rates is seldom addressed. Deriving data from 32 countries and 427 web sites, this study explores the correlation between unemployment rates of European countries and the attractiveness of ...

Acceleration of enzymatic reactions due to nearby inactive binding sites [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Research, v6, 043330 (2024)
Many biological molecular motors and machines are driven by chemical reactions that occur in specific catalytic sites. We study whether the arrival of molecules to such an active site can be accelerated by the presence of a nearby inactive site. Our approach is based on comparing the steady-state current in simple models to reference models without an ...

Detecting Individual Sites Subject to Episodic Diversifying Selection

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2012
The imprint of natural selection on protein coding genes is often difficult to identify because selection is frequently transient or episodic, i.e. it affects only a subset of lineages.

Perceptions of School Climate and Connectedness:The Impact of a Cross Age Peer Mentoring Program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The intent of this research is to determine the impact of a peer mentoring/tutoring program on parent perceptions of school climate and connectedness and standardized test scores, report card grades and attendance of at risk elementary students.

Thread-Modular Static Analysis for Relaxed Memory Models

open access: yes, 2017
We propose a memory-model-aware static program analysis method for accurately analyzing the behavior of concurrent software running on processors with weak consistency models such as x86-TSO, SPARC-PSO, and SPARC-RMO.

Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...
