Crime Rates and Alaska Criminal Justice Reform [PDF]
A shorter version of this article appeared on pp. 1–2 of the Fall 2017 print edition.Definitive conclusions about the impact of Senate Bill 91 on the rate of property crimes in Alaska are not possible for a number of reasons, including that the most ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Steady-state modeling and analysis of six-phase synchronous motor
Steady-state analysis is needed for a better understanding of the operational behavior of a six-phase synchronous motor. Therefore, this paper primarily addresses the steady-state analysis of an asymmetrical six-phase synchronous motor, including the development of a mathematical model employing Park's (dq0) transformation, valid for different terminal

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Speed Estimation of Six-Phase Induction Motors, Using the Rotor Slot Harmonics
Multiphase machines have recently been promoted as a viable alternative to traditional three-phase machines. Most experts are looking for strategies to estimate the rotation speed of such complex systems, since speed data are required for high-performance control purposes.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
