A lactose-specific lectin with a molecular mass of about 25 kDa was purified from the skin mucus of a cartilaginous fish-the common skate (Raja kenojei). The complementary DNA sequence of the lectin was 1540 bp long and contained a reading frame encoding 226 amino acids, which showed approximately 38% identity to pentraxins of mammals and teleosts ...

A second class of immunoglobulin, in addition to a pentameric immunoglobulin analogous to mammalian IgM, was found in the serum of a cartilaginous fish, the skate, Raja kenojei. The immunoglobulin was a non-covalently associated dimer with a sedimentation coefficient of 8.9S and a mol. wt of 320,000. Its heavy chain had a mol.

The present study reports aspects of GI tract physiology in the white-spotted bamboo shark, Chiloscyllium plagiosum, little skate, Leucoraja erinacea and the clear nose skate, Raja eglanteria. Plasma and stomach fluid osmolality and solute values were comparable between species, and stomach pH was low in all species (2.2 to 3.4) suggesting these ...

The effects of focused ultrasound have been investigated on the structures of electroreceptor system of the Black Sea skates (Raja clavata, Dasyatis pastinaca), as well as on the tissues of some other poikilotherms (fishes Belone belone and Solea lascaris, toad Bufo viridis, frog Rana temporaria). It was shown that focused ultrasound evokes excitation (

Low doses of pentagastrin (50 mug/kg b. w.) have no physiological effect on motor activity of the stomach in the skate Dasyatis pastinaca. Average doses (100-200 mug/kg) stimulate the activity, whereas high ones (300 mug/kg) inhibit the frequency of stomach contractions, slightly increasing their amplitude.

AbstractWe identified the presence in the Aleutian skate, Bathyraja aleutica, of two classes of immunoglobulins (Ig), a high molecular weight Ig analogous to mammalian IgM and a low molecular weight Ig, similarly to the spiny rasp skate, Raja kenojei, (Kobayashi, K. et al., Mol. Immunol. 1984.

An investigation on the skate fishing at M'diq and Tangier ports (Northern Morocco)
2015AbstractThis study encompasses skate fishing at M'diq and Tangier ports (Morocco Mediterranean coast). It addresses the exploitation of these Chondrichthyans by analyzing skate landings during 2006-2010. Skates are usually recorded under general taxonomic groups in the Moroccan fishery statistics, being identified only to family (Rajidae) or genus
