Purification, structural characterization, and myotropic activity of a peptide related to des-Arg9-bradykinin from an elasmobranch fish, the little skate, Leucoraja erinacea

Peptides, 2008
A bradykinin (BK)-related peptide was isolated from heat-denaturated plasma from an elasmobranch fish, the little skate, Leucoraja erinacea after incubation with porcine pancreatic kallikrein. The primary structure of the peptide (H-Gly-Ile-Thr-Ser-Trp-Leu-Pro-Phe-OH; skate BK) shows limited structural similarity to the mammalian B1 receptor agonist ...

[Effect of focused ultrasound on the electroreceptor system of skates and certain fish and amphibian tissues].

Zhurnal evoliutsionnoi biokhimii i fiziologii, 1980
The effects of focused ultrasound have been investigated on the structures of electroreceptor system of the Black Sea skates (Raja clavata, Dasyatis pastinaca), as well as on the tissues of some other poikilotherms (fishes Belone belone and Solea lascaris, toad Bufo viridis, frog Rana temporaria). It was shown that focused ultrasound evokes excitation (

An investigation on the skate fishing at M'diq and Tangier ports (Northern Morocco)

2015
AbstractThis study encompasses skate fishing at M'diq and Tangier ports (Morocco Mediterranean coast). It addresses the exploitation of these Chondrichthyans by analyzing skate landings during 2006-2010. Skates are usually recorded under general taxonomic groups in the Moroccan fishery statistics, being identified only to family (Rajidae) or genus

Some of the most interesting things we know, and don't know, about the biochemistry and physiology of elasmobranch fishes (sharks, skates and rays)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2016
The urea-retaining strategy of elasmobranchs has shaped their biochemistry and physiology; from their metabolic organization to the structure of their membranes. It has also affected their capacity to live in freshwater. Although much new information has been uncovered in the past 30years, many unanswered questions remain.

[The effect of pentagastrin and ornithine-tetragastrin on motor activity of the stomach in skates and scorpion-fish].

Zhurnal evoliutsionnoi biokhimii i fiziologii, 1976
Low doses of pentagastrin (50 mug/kg b. w.) have no physiological effect on motor activity of the stomach in the skate Dasyatis pastinaca. Average doses (100-200 mug/kg) stimulate the activity, whereas high ones (300 mug/kg) inhibit the frequency of stomach contractions, slightly increasing their amplitude.
