Molecular Characterization and Expression of α‐Globin and β‐Globin Genes in the Euryhaline Flounder (Platichthys flesus)

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
In order to understand the possible role of globin genes in fish salinity adaptation, we report the molecular characterization and expression of all four subunits of haemoglobin, and their response to salinity challenge in flounder. The entire open reading frames of α1‐globin and α2‐globin genes were 432 and 435 bp long, respectively, whereas the β1 ...

Lift producing device exhibiting low drag and reduced ventilation potential and method for producing the same [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A lift producing device is disclosed which is adapted to be connected to a vehicle to provide lift to the vehicle when the vehicle is moved relative to a first fluid medium having a first density and viscosity and being in contact with a second fluid ...

Using an automated decision support tool to improve HIV prescribing: A feasibility study

open access: yesHIV Medicine, Volume 26, Issue 6, Page 914-922, June 2025.
Abstract Objectives The selection of antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens for people living with HIV is complex and dependent on individual and clinician‐perceived risk factors and preferences. The British HIV Association (BHIVA) advocates cost‐effective prescribing and shared decision‐making between patients and clinicians.

Comparison and hydrodynamic performance analysis of positioning bow type self-propelled cutter suction dredger aft hull lines

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectiveAs the hydrodynamic performance of a positioning bow type self-propelled cutter suction dredger (CSD) is significantly different from that of an ordinary ship, this paper analyzes its performance in order to assist in the rational selection and ...

Sailboat propeller drag [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
All but the smallest classes of modern keelboats are fitted with inboard engines and consequently, when making way under sail, the craft experience parasitic drag due to trailing propellers and associated appendages.

Sticky price for declining risk? Business strategies with “behavioral” customers in the hotel industry

open access: yesJournal of Economics &Management Strategy, Volume 34, Issue 1, Page 250-273, Spring 2025.
Abstract Using data from about 25 million hotel room postings in four countries, we document that rather than decreasing to zero as the likelihood of cancellation declines, the difference between the prices for refundable and nonrefundable reservations remains positive at roughly 10%–15% of the full price.

The salt fringe as an energy periphery: Energy efficiency in the private rental sector of seaside towns in England and Wales

open access: yesGeo: Geography and Environment, Volume 12, Issue 1, January‐June 2025.
Short Abstract This paper provides an empirically grounded intervention to argue for the necessity of future scholarship and interventions in UK energy and social policy to pay closer attention to seaside towns and develop broader geographical conceptualisations of energy peripheries, beyond rurality.

Design and Control of a Flight-Style AUV with Hovering Capability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The small flight-style Delphin AUV is designed to evaluate the performance of a long range survey AUV with the additional capability to hover and manoeuvre at slow speed. Delphin’s hull form is based on a scaled version of Autosub6000, and in addition to

Exome capture of Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) for cost effective genotyping and population genetics with historical collections

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 24, Issue 8, November 2024.
Abstract Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba Dana) is a keystone species in the Southern Ocean ecosystem, with ecological and commercial significance. However, its vulnerability to climate change requires an urgent investigation of its adaptive potential to future environmental conditions.

Horizontal plane course-stability and manoeuvres of a twin-screw surface combatant depending on appendage dimensions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
In this study, powering and manoeuvring performance of a twin-screw surface combatant, ONR tumblehome (ONRT), are estimated through towing tank captive model tests, and influences of appendage dimensions on its course-stabilities and manoeuvres are ...
