Tricyclazole alleviates Fonsecaea pedrosoi-induced immune suppression of neutrophils by inhibiting DHN-melanin biosynthesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
IntroductionChromoblastomycosis (CBM) is a chronic cutaneous infection caused by dematiaceous fungi, characterized by therapeutic challenges such as difficulty in pathogen clearance and high recurrence rates. Fonsecaea pedrosoi (F.

Skin microbiota: a source of disease or defence?

open access: yes, 2008
Microbes found on the skin are usually regarded as pathogens, potential pathogens or innocuous symbiotic organisms. Advances in microbiology and immunology are revising our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of microbial virulence and the specific

Cellular deconvolution of GTEx tissues powers discovery of disease and cell-type associated regulatory variants. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) resource has provided insights into the regulatory impact of genetic variation on gene expression across human tissues; however, thus far has not considered how variation acts at the resolution of the different cell ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

A noteworthy issue: microbiome data variation depending on sampling methods in skin microecology studies in acne vulgaris patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionSkin microecology significantly affects health, with the microbiome being a complex community of microorganisms. Different niche preferences of microorganisms raise concerns about the adequacy of common sampling methods like swabbing and ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Potential of CLSPN as a therapeutic target in melanoma: a key player in melanoma progression and tumor microenvironment

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Background Melanoma is a highly aggressive form of skin cancer. Despite significant advances in targeted therapies and immunotherapeutic approaches, some patients still have poor response rates, making a deeper understanding of melanoma pathogenesis ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...
