This paper presents the case of a 35-year-old man who consulted the department of venereology because of healing problems with some wounds caused by burning his skin perianally with cigarettes as part of a sexual satisfaction ritual. Knowledge of such lesions may be useful to physicians and social workers.

Abstract The cases of three patients with Shigella sonnei infection and skin lesions, two of whom also had Shigella bacteremia, were studied for a viral etiology of the skin lesions, but the findings were negative. Shigella bacteremia is rare and cannot be diagnosed clinically.

Summary The efficacy and local tolerance of 2% miconazole nitrate plus 1% hydrocortisone (Daktacort) was tested in 30 patients with skin lesions. 28 patients (93.3%) with dermatophytosis, candidal intertrigo, pityriasis versicolor and piodermitis, mostly with inflammatory symptoms, were cured completely after 4 weeks' treatment.

Abstract Pigmented lesions are common in the dog and cat. They are less common in the horse and pig and infrequently found in laboratory animals and other domestic animals kept for food and fiber production. The true incidence of pigmented lesions in animals is not known.

Psoriatic skin disease is common; it occurs at all ages and co-exists with joint disease in approximately 10% of cases. All areas of skin, scalp and nails may be involved. In the typical case, the skin lesions are easy to recognize. Atypical forms of skin involvement and lesions at unusual sites are less easily diagnosed by non-specialists.

The most common precancerous skin lesions are actinic keratoses, Bowen's disease, and keratoacanthoma. Actinic keratoses appear over the exposed areas of the body as the result of actinic radiation. Bowen's disease is most probably secondary to the effects of internal carcinogens.
