A LEAP Forward in Wildlife Conservation: A Standardized Framework to Determine Mortality Causes in Large GPS‐Tagged Birds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
A novel framework for determining the causes of mortality of large GPS‐tagged birds, the LIFE EUROKITE Assessment Protocol (LEAP), was developed. LEAP integrates GPS tracking data, site investigation, and necropsy to derive mortality causes and a corresponding certainty score. Two case studies demonstrated improvements in mortality assessments compared

Predictors of Distribution and Diversity of Rare, Protected, and Endangered Freshwater Mollusks in Rivers With Various Land Use in the Context of Environmental Changes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
Rivers face multiple stressors that act on biodiversity. In view of global environmental changes, river modifications, deforestation, and pollution, their natural parts are of the highest importance in maintaining the biodiversity of mollusks; therefore, the study addresses the predictors of rare species, as they serve as ecological indicators of ...

Establishing a Multi-Thesauri-Scenario based on SKOS and Cross-Concordances [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
This case study proposes a scenario with three topic-related thesauri, which have been connected with bilateral cross-concordances as part of a major terminology mapping initiative in the project KoMoHe (Mayr & Petras, 2008). The thesauri have already been or will be converted to SKOS and in order to not omit the relevant crosswalks, the mapping ...

The British Geological Survey Rock Classification Scheme, its representation as linked data, and a comparison with some other lithology vocabularies

open access: yesApplied Computing and Geosciences, 2023
Controlled vocabularies are critical to constructing FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, re-useable) data. One of the most widely required, yet complex, vocabularies in earth science is for rock and sediment type, or ‘lithology’.
