Design of a Narrow Band Filter Based on a Photonic Crystal Cavity for CO2 Sensing Application

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This paper investigates the use of a miniaturized filter based on a triangular lattice of holes in a photonic crystal (PhC) slab. The plane wave expansion method (PWE) and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) techniques were utilized to analyze the ...

Dispersion-free characterization of terahertz slab–waveguide modal confinement based on a metal Bragg grating structure

open access: yesResults in Physics
Photonic waveguide structures that use periodic metal grooves and periodically perforated metal slits (PPMSs) can laterally confine Sommerfeld and Zenneck surface waves of metals with the electric field accumulation among metal interspaces in the ...

Solution‐Processed Mn‐Doped 2d Perovskite Wavelength Shifters for Noble‐Liquid Photon Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Mn2+‐doped PEA2PbBr4 two‐dimensional perovskite films are demonstrated as large‐area wavelength shifters for noble‐liquid photon detectors. Mn2+ incorporation introduces a broad emission band at ∼620 nm with a large Stokes shift, suppressing self‐absorption and matching SiPM sensitivity.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Refractive Index Engineering With Subwavelength Gratings in Silicon Microphotonic Waveguides

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2011
In this review, we summarize and discuss our recent studies of subwavelength grating (SWG) structures for engineering the refractive index of silicon microphotonic waveguides. The SWG effect allows control of the effective refractive index of a waveguide

Gain and lasing from CdSe/CdS nanoplatelet stripe waveguides

open access: yesMicro and Nano Engineering, 2022
: Colloidal semiconducting nanocrystals are efficient, stable and spectrally tunable emitters, but achievable optical gain is often limited by fast nonradiative processes. These processes are strongly suppressed in slab-shaped nanocrystals (nanoplatelets)

Directional Flow of Confined Polaritons in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
CrSBr, a layered magnetic semiconductor, naturally channels self‐hybridized excitonpolaritons into highly directional flow. Its intrinsic optical anisotropy, high refractive index, and strong lightmatter coupling enable long‐range guided modes along the a‐axis, with propagation lengths set by their excitonphoton admixture.

Far‐Infrared Hyperbolic Phonon–Polaritons in Zirconium Disulfide

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An unpatterned ZrS2${\rm ZrS}_2$ flake, coupled to far‐field infrared light by metal nanoribbons, reveals hyperbolic phonon polaritons with multiple higher‐order branches and effective refractive indices up to 223. This resonator‐assisted approach establishes ZrS2${\rm ZrS}_2$ as a compact van der Waals platform for deeply subwavelength far‐infrared ...

Deterministic Nucleation of Nanocrystal Superlattices on 2D Perovskites for Light‐Funneling Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work investigates the heterogeneous nucleation of CsPbBr3${\rm CsPbBr}_3$ nanocrystal superlattices along the faces of 2D PEA2PbBr4${\rm PEA}_2{\rm PbBr}_4$ layered perovskite microcrystals. Core–crown and core–shell heterostructure morphologies are obtained.
