Therapeutic potential of ginsenosides in circadian rhythm-based skin disorders

open access: yesJournal of Ginseng Research
The circadian rhythm, a biological system all living organisms possess, has become increasingly important as sleep patterns become more irregular. Circadian rhythms affect various cell types (fibroblasts, fat cells, muscles, etc.) and organs (the liver ...

Circadian and Wakefulness-Sleep Modulation of Cognition in Humans

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2012
Cognitive and affective processes vary over the course of the 24 hour day. Time of day dependent changes in human cognition are modulated by an internal circadian timekeeping system with a near-24-hour period.

Comparative Review of Approved Melatonin Agonists for the Treatment of Circadian Rhythm Sleep‐Wake Disorders

open access: yesPharmacotherapy, 2016
Circadian rhythm sleep‐wake disorders (CRSWDs) are characterized by persistent or recurrent patterns of sleep disturbance related primarily to alterations of the circadian rhythm system or the misalignment between the endogenous circadian rhythm and ...

Døgnrytmeforstyrrelser [PDF]

open access: yesTidsskrift for Den norske legeforening, 2009
Circadian rhythm sleep disorders often lead to sleepiness and insomnia. These disorders are characterized by a misalignment between the intrinsic circadian rhythm and the external social and physical environment. This review is based on the authors' research and clinical experience and on articles identified by non-systematic searches in Pubmed and ISI ...

Type 2 Diabetes‐Associated Phenylacetylglutamine Induces Deleterious Inflammation Cycle in Myeloid Cells through β2 Adrenergic Receptors and Impedes Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microbiota‐derived metabolite phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln) is elevated in type 2 diabetes and tightly associated with poor healing in both diabetic and non‐diabetic human patients. PAGln promotes mouse inflammation and impairs healing through a transmissible β2‐adrenergic receptor–mediated trained‐immunity loop.

Importance of regular lifestyle with daytime bright light exposure on circadian rhythm sleep–wake disorders in pervasive developmental disorders

open access: yesJapanese Dental Science Review, 2011
Considerable attention has been paid to individuals showing social maladjustment as well as withdrawal from social situations and activity, a state referred to as “Hikikomori” in Japanese.

Plasticity of the intrinsic period of the human circadian timing system. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2007
Human expeditions to Mars will require adaptation to the 24.65-h Martian solar day-night cycle (sol), which is outside the range of entrainment of the human circadian pacemaker under lighting intensities to which astronauts are typically exposed. Failure

Prevalence of Circadian Rhythm Sleep-Wake Disorders and Associated Factors in Euthymic Patients with Bipolar Disorder

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Recent studies have suggested that there are certain pathophysiological relationships between bipolar disorder (BD) and circadian rhythm dysfunction. However, apparently no studies have clarified the prevalence of circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders ...

Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorder: Irregular Sleep Wake Rhythm [PDF]

open access: yesSleep Medicine Clinics, 2009
Irregular Sleep Wake Rhythm Disorder (ISWRD) is characterized by the relative absence of a circadian pattern in an individual's sleep-wake cycle. Significant changes in circadian regulation occur with aging and with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease prevalent in older adults, which are likely to contribute to the prevalence of ...
