Sliding wear of nitrided steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The unlubricated sliding wear behaviour of gas nitrided, plasma nitrided, and ferritic nitrocarburized BS970,905M39 (EN41B) steels was investigated ...

Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Running-in wear modeling of honed surface for combustion engine cylinder liners [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The texture change during running-in alters the performance and efficiency of a tribo-mechanical system. During mass production of cylinder liners, a final finishing stage known as ‘‘plateau honing’’ is commonly added to reduce the running-in wear ...

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Prediction of Sliding Wear of Artificial Rough Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
When two surfaces are brought in contact, deformation takes place at asperity level. The local pressure distribution and deformation of the contacting surfaces are importance with respect to wear.

Tribological and vibrational characteristics of AISI 316L tested at elevated temperature and 600 Torr vacuum

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2019
Friction and wear studies enable the investigation of material interaction between two sliding surfaces in contact. In the present investigation, the coefficient of friction and the wear resistance of AISI 316 L parts were studied under self-mating, dry ...

Predicting UHMWPE wear: decreasing wear rate following a change in sliding direction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The patient demographic for total joint replacement is becoming younger and more active leading to increased performance expectations [1]. To develop new products that meet these demands, computer simulations that predict wear are emerging as potential ...
