Strong dynamical effects during stick-slip adhesive peeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We consider the classical problem of the stick-slip dynamics observed when peeling a roller adhesive tape at a constant velocity. From fast imaging recordings, we extract the dependencies of the stick and slip phases durations with the imposed peeling ...

Fokker-Planck and Langevin equations for arbitrary slip velocities [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1987
An expression for the Fokker-Planck equation governing the velocity distribution function of particles or heavy molecules immersed in a host light gas valid for arbitrary mean velocities of the heavy component is given. This expression generalizes previous results which were limited to small differences between the mean velocities of the heavy and ...

CFD study of the effect of unsteady slip velocity waveform on shear stress in membrane systems

open access: yesChemical Engineering and Science, 2018
An unsteady forced slip velocity has an important effect on the flow conditions adjacent to a membrane interface, which can help control concentration polarisation (CP) and fouling. This study explores the effect of non-sinusoidal slip velocity waveforms

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

The Magnetohydrodynamic Boundary Layer Flow of a Nanofluid past a Stretching/Shrinking Sheet with Slip Boundary Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2014
The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow of a nanofluid past a stretching/shrinking sheet with velocity, thermal, and solutal slip boundary conditions is studied.

On the velocity-strengthening behavior of dry friction

open access: yes, 2014
The onset of frictional instabilities, e.g. earthquakes nucleation, is intimately related to velocity-weakening friction, in which the frictional resistance of interfaces decreases with increasing slip velocity.

A CFD study on the effect of membrane permeance on permeate flux enhancement generated by unsteady slip velocity

open access: yesJournal of Membrane Science, 2018
One of the most noteworthy achievements in reverse osmosis (RO) efficiency is the improvement in membrane permeance. Although current membranes offer higher permeance (and flux) than older RO membranes, increases in permeate flux are limited by ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
