Heat treatment duration affects in vitro‐induced photosynthetic impairment and development of necrotic leaf tissue in three Mediterranean oak species

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Longer lasting heat treatment durations induced photosynthetic impairment at lower temperatures and caused the development of proportionally more necrotic tissue at lower temperatures in leaves of three Mediterranean oak species. Abstract Short heat treatments are commonly used to estimate the leaf‐level thermal tolerance of tree species. The effect of

The oral microbiota and periodontal health in orthodontic patients

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract The oral microbiota develops within the first 2 years of childhood and becomes distinct from the parents by 4 years‐of‐age. The oral microbiota plays an important role in the overall health/symbiosis of the individual. Deviations from the state of symbiosis leads to dysbiosis and an increased risk of pathogenicity.

The double modal construction in English world wide

open access: yesWorld Englishes, EarlyView.
Abstract The dual foci of the present study of double modals are their semantic characteristics and their distribution across regional varieties of English world wide. Tokens were extracted from GloWbE:Blogs, a database whose great size and informal tenor facilitated the investigation of this low‐frequency non‐standard feature. Double modals were found

Microgravity‐induced changes in skeletal muscle and possible countermeasures: What we can learn from bed rest and human space studies

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite exercise countermeasures to sustain health and performance in spaceflight, complete maintenance of muscle mass and functions in microgravity is still not possible for most astronauts. The principal cause of the limited effectiveness of existing exercise countermeasures is the difficulty in achieving full loading forces in space.
