A cavity-backed slot antenna is proposed. The antenna is theoretically and experimentally studied. The antenna consists of a slot cut in a ground plane and backed by shorting strips, forming a backing cavity. Experimental studies of the antenna show a 2:1 VSWR input impedance bandwidth of more than 20%.

Suppression of slot mode in slotted waveguide antennas
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1975It has been found experimentally that the efficiency of radiation of the slot mode in slotted waveguide antennas increases with the slot width. The excitation of the slot mode can be prevented by covering the slot with a thin film of metal. Alternatively, the slot may be covered with a sheet of dielectric to suppress the slot mode.

Dualband DRA-slot hybrid slot antenna
2007 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2007A dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is placed on top of a slotted cavity to form a hybrid antenna. An L-probe is placed inside the cavity to feed the zonal slot, cut onto the cavity, and the DRA simultaneously. Ansoft HFSS was used to analyze the proposed hybrid antenna, which provides a dual-band operation.

Investigation of SRR slot on monopole antenna
