Data‐Driven Bulldozer Blade Control for Autonomous Terrain Leveling

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A simulation‐driven framework for autonomous bulldozer leveling is presented, combining high‐fidelity terramechanics simulation with a neural‐network‐based reduced‐order model. Gradient‐based optimization enables efficient, low‐level blade control that balances leveling quality and operation time.

Impact of inlet design on mass transfer in gas-liquid rectangular microchannels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The length of the gas bubbles as well as of the liquid slugs in Taylor flow in rectangular microchannels was studied. At constant flow ratios of the gas and the liquid phase, we were able to vary the unit cell length, and therefore the gas bubble length ...

An analytical model for gas overpressure in slug-driven explosions:insights into Strombolian volcanic eruptions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Strombolian eruptions, common at basaltic volcanoes, are mildly explosive events that are driven by a large bubble of magmatic gas (a slug) rising up the conduit and bursting at the surface.

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

CFD Simulation of Various Two-Phase Flow Patterns in Y-Shaped Microfluidic Channels [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering
This study presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of two-phase flow patterns in a Y-shaped microfluidic device. The two-phase flow of water and n-butyl acetate is simulated using the volume of fluid (VOF) method in a Y-shaped ...

Discrete particle simulation of bubble and slug formation in a two-dimensional gas-fluidised bed: a hard-sphere approach. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A discrete particle model of a gas-fluidised bed has been developed and in this the two-dimensional motion of the individual, spherical particles was directly calculated from the forces acting on them, accounting for the interaction between the particles

Slug Flow Transition in Horizontal Gas-Liquid Flow

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1984
We investigated a horizontal two-phase flow transition from separated flow to slug flow without a phase change. A transition model is presented in this paper, based on the experimental results obtained in the air-water system. The model is derived from the growth condition of a wave on a stratified water layer. It agrees reasonably well with Mandhane's

Engineered Living Systems With Self‐Organizing Neural Networks: From Anatomy to Behavior and Gene Expression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ectodermal tissue excised from Xenopus embryos self‐organizes into a three‐dimensional mucociliary organoid. Here, we generate a neural variant, termed neurobot, by implanting neural precursor cells. Neurobots develop mature neurons, adopt distinct morphologies, exhibit more complex motility, and respond differentially to neuroactive compounds. Imaging

Investigation of slug mitigation: self-lifting approach in a deepwater oil field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Slug flow is a flow assurance issue that staggers production and, in some cases, 'kills the flow' of the well. Severe slugging, a type of slugging which usually occurs at the base of the riser column, causes large amplitudes in the fluctuation of ...
