Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Mechanically Triggered DNA Nanovehicles for Targeted Dual‐Drug Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A mechanically triggered DNA nanovehicle is introduced that co‐releases two anticancer drugs in response to integrin‐mediated cellular forces. Cholesterol‐anchored DNA assemblies undergo force‐induced unfolding at cell–cell junctions, enabling selective, localized dual‐drug activation in cancer cells while minimizing off‐target toxicity in low‐tension ...

Comparative validation of serum creatinine- and cystatin C-based surrogate markers for skeletal muscle mass in patients with non-dialysis chronic kidney disease

open access: yesRenal Replacement Therapy
Background Sarcopenia, characterized by reduced skeletal muscle mass (SMM) and diminished muscle strength and/or decreased physical activity, poses a significant morbidity and mortality risk in patients with non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD ...

Cobalt Single‐Atom Catalysts for Ultrafast Sulfamethoxazole Degradation: Unveiling the Chloride‐Ion‐Enhanced Formation of Co(IV)=O

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An atomically dispersed Co–N4 single‐atom catalyst rapidly activates peroxymonosulfate to remove the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole from water. Common ions have little impact, but chloride dramatically speeds degradation by promoting a high‐valent Co(IV) = O oxidant via in situ HOCl–catalyst electron transfer.

Association between long-term weight-change trajectory and cardiovascular disease risk by physical activity level

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Using data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study, we identified weight-change patterns during midlife using a group-based trajectory model, and evaluated their associations with the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

A Pair of Multifunctional Cu(II)–Dy(III) Enantiomers with Zero–Field Single–Molecule Magnet Behaviors, Proton Conduction Properties and Magneto–Optical Faraday Effects

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Multifunctional materials with a coexistence of proton conduction properties, single–molecule magnet (SMM) behaviors and magneto–optical Faraday effects have rarely been reported. Herein, a new pair of Cu(II)–Dy(III) enantiomers, [DyCu2(RR/SS–H2L)2(H2O)4(

Targeting ANGPTL3 and IL‐33/ST2 Ameliorates Diabetic Kidney Disease by Reducing Lipotoxicity, Alleviating Inflammation and Inhibiting Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of ANGPTL3 and IL‐33/ST2 attenuates diabetic kidney disease by reprogramming lipid–inflammatory crosstalk. This strategy reduces renal lipotoxicity, suppresses inflammatory activation, and limits fibrotic remodeling, thereby preserving kidney structure and function and highlighting a mechanism‐guided therapeutic approach for metabolic ...

Physical inactivity and protein energy wasting play independent roles in muscle weakness in maintenance haemodialysis patients. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
BACKGROUND:Muscle weakness is associated with increased mortality risk in chronic haemodialysis (CHD) patients. Protein energy wasting (PEW) and low physical activity could impair muscle quality and contribute to muscle weakness beyond muscle wasting in ...
