Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.

Modeling Smoke Visibility In CFD [PDF]

open access: yesFire Safety Science, 2005
Smoke transport is a fundamental fire phenomenon. One area of interest in fire/life safety is computer modeling of fire and smoke transport. Smoke impairs visibility, and visibility is path-dependent. This paper presents a ray tracing technique for smoke visualization. The method of ray tracing directly addresses visibility from a viewer’s perspective.

Scale modeling studies on smoke control using smoke screens in a titled tunnel fire

open access: yes, 2012
Many tunnels, which are inclined to the horizontal, are built in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Smoke control systems are installed to minimize damage in tunnels in case of fire.

On the reliability of CALPUFF and AUSTAL 2000 modeling systems regarding smoke and vapor plume mergence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Observations at power plants have shown that smoke plumes from stacks frequently merge with vapor plumes from cooling towers. Wind speed and direction play a key role in merging vapor and smoke plume.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Validation of fire dynamics simulator predictions incorporating measured smoke characteristics – Part 1: Smoke concentration and particle deposition

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Accurately predicting smoke concentration is critical in fire safety engineering because smoke obstructs visibility and poses severe respiratory hazards. These effects directly impact evacuation procedures and complicate fire protection strategies.
