A color representation of two-dimensional discontinuous seismic structures [PDF]
We present a computational procedure to represent with colors two-dimensional piecewise continuous functions. Seismic wave velocities are used as examples.

An Improved Material Point Method with Aggregated and Smoothed Bernstein Functions
Nodal shape functions and their gradients are vital in transferring physical information within the material point method (MPM). Their continuity is related to numerical stability and accuracy, and their support domain size affects computational ...

Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

An allometric smoothing function to describe the relation between otolith and somatic growth over the lifespan of walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) [PDF]
We propose a new equation to describe the relation between otolith length (OL) and somatic length (fork length [FL]) of fish for the entire lifespan of the fish.

Separating the scales in a compressible interstellar medium
We apply Gaussian smoothing to obtain mean density, velocity, magnetic and energy density fields in simulations of the interstellar medium based on three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic equations in a shearing box $1\times1\times2 \, \rm{kpc}$ in size ...

Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Handling Overlapping Asymmetric Data Sets—A Twice Penalized P-Spline Approach
Aims: Overlapping asymmetric data sets are where a large cohort of observations have a small amount of information recorded, and within this group there exists a smaller cohort which have extensive further information available.

The work of Professor Andrzej Lasota on asymptotic stability and recent progress [PDF]
The paper is devoted to Professor Andrzej Lasota's contribution to the ergodic theory of stochastic operators. We have selected some of his important papers and shown their influence on the evolution of this topic. We emphasize the role A.

A method for reducing sampling jitter in digital control systems [PDF]
Digital phase lock loop system is designed by smoothing the proportional control with a low pass filter. This method does not significantly affect the loop dynamics when the smoothing filter bandwidth is wide compared to loop ...

Towards Smooth Particle Methods Without Smoothing [PDF]
In this article we present a new class of particle methods which aim at being accurate in the uniform norm with a minimal amount of smoothing. The crux of our approach is to compute local polynomial expansions of the characteristic flow to transport the particle shapes with improved accuracy.
