Search and Passage Are Decoupled for Migrating Trout Kelts at Multi‐Exit Dam
ABSTRACT Longitudinal and lateral river connectivity have been drastically reduced over time, with hydropower development as a major driver of fragmentation. While fishways are widely implemented to support upstream migration, downstream passage remains a major challenge.

Camera traps have become an increasingly popular non‐invasive alternative to animal‐attached devices for studying wildlife behaviour. This study compared wolf (Canis lupus) activity patterns derived from collar accelerometers and road‐positioned camera traps and revealed strong overall agreement but also important seasonal and diel mismatches between ...

Modelling Directional Dispersion Through Hyperspherical Log- Splines [PDF]
We introduce the directionally dispersed class of multivariate distributions, a generalisation of the elliptical class. By allowing dispersion of multivariate random variables to vary with direction it is possible to generate a very wide and flexible ...

Intelligent approaches are required to extract valuable phenological information from time‐series digital camera photos. In this research, we employed YOLO‐based object detection and semantic segmentation models to identify flowers and flower pixels, acquire flower count and flower cover data, and extract phenophases such as first, peak, and end ...

This study demonstrates that not just Airborne Laser Scanning, but also Sentinel‐2 can effectively estimate absolute canopy cover and canopy cover heterogeneity ‐ structural metrics that determine the subcanopy light regime, found to be linked to the vascular plant species richness in the understory of temperate mountain forests.

An automated framework is presented for quantifying DNA conformational variability from atomic force microscopy (AFM) images. DNA backbones are reduced to spline representations and analyzed using cyclic Procrustes analysis to measure shape similarity across ensembles.

A Novel Approach to Energy Management in Electric Steelworks
Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate electric energy consumptions of the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace processes. The models are used to optimize production schedule so that more energy intensive grades are produced when the cost of energy is lower.

We present a method for estimating functions on topologically and/or geometrically complex surfaces from possibly noisy observations. Our approach is an extension of spline smoothing, using a nite element method.
