Numerical simulation and physical understanding of a locally initiated sea fog event over the eastern Yellow Sea with a transition of air–sea temperature difference

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Unexpected sea fog in the west coast of South Korea had a huge impact on the transportations in the Seoul–Incheon metropolitan area. We reproduced successfully the formation and evolution of a sea event with a transition of air–sea temperature difference using the Weather Research and Forecasting model.

Effects of snow physical parameters on spectral albedo and bidirectional reflectance of snow surface

open access: yesEffects of snow physical parameters on spectral albedo and bidirectional reflectance of snow surface
Observationso f spectrala lbedo and bidirectionalr eflectancei n the wavelength region of X = 0.35-2.5 tzm were made together with snow pit work on a flat snowfield in eastern Hokkaido, Japan. The effects of snow impurities, density, layer structure, and grain size attained by in situ and laboratorym easurementsw ere taken into accounti n snow models ...

Resilient Flow Regimes in the Rio Grande—Río Bravo Basin

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Water is essential for human development and is an indispensable resource for economic activity and a country's growth. However, current water practices, along with increasing land‐use change, climate change, and agricultural practices, have significantly altered the hydrological cycle and water availability.

Strategies for Assessing Post‐Wildfire Geomorphic Resilience in Semiarid Rivers

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We review and summarize diverse components of a catchment that can be monitored after wildfire to assess the geomorphic resilience of the river corridor in semiarid regions. We distinguish upland portions of river catchments from river corridors.

Projected Temperature and Precipitation Expand Modeled Distributions of Reynoutria spp. While Modeled Distribution Changes for Ludwigia spp. Are Scenario‐Dependent at Watershed Scales in the Pacific Northwest, USA

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Invasive species can fundamentally alter their introduced habitats by changing natural processes and harming native species crucial to functional ecosystems and human needs. Although the number of potential invasive species is large, the suitability of novel locations to support population establishment is limited by both physical and ...

Future changes in population exposure to snowfall extremes across Eurasia

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Abstract Extreme snowfall events have frequently occurred across parts of Eurasia, causing substantial economic losses and severe societal impacts. As global warming intensifies, assessing its potential effect on population exposure to such extremes becomes increasingly crucial. This study employed CMIP6 model datasets and future population projections
