Snubber circuit design for GTO converters

Proceedings IECON '91: 1991 International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control and Instrumentation, 2002
The design of snubber circuits for GTO (gate turn-off thyristor) power converters used in electrical railways is considered. The amount of energy stored in the series and in the parallel snubbers is significant. For this reason designers are interested in limiting the losses connected with the trapped energy in the snubbers.

Experimental evaluation of MOS-FET snubber circuit

The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. Computer as a Tool., 2004
This paper presents the analyses and the design of snubber circuits for low power dc-dc converters realized with MOS-FETs. The analyses and the design procedure are based on experimental evaluation. The appropriate user of the snubber circuit can increase the power range of the low-power dc-dc converters available as interacted circuit.

Computer-aided design of power transistor inverter snubber circuits

IEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1987
The conventional voltage-source inverter snubber circuit has been examined in detail by computer simulations. A new snubber arrangement is proposed and analysed. It aims to reduce the transient voltage overshoot without incurring excessive switching losses.

New snubber circuit with passive energyrecoveryfor power inverters

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1996
The paper proposes a new passive circuit for partial snubber-energy recovery in GTO thyristor high-power voltage-source inverters. The analysis and simulations show that the proposed bridge-leg snubber circuit can recover greater than sixty five per cent of the total snubber energy, as well as the freewheel diode reverse recovery energy. This energy is

Passive soft-switching snubber circuit with energy recovery

2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2008
This paper describes a passive snubber circuit with energy recovery to the source. This circuit uses only passive components and can work with a full-leg power conversion topology, i.e., using standard IGBT modules. The circuit provides soft-switching, that is ZVS turn off, reduces slew rate, and increases efficiency around 1% under full load ...

Analysis of Snubber Circuit Parameters Based on an Excitation Controlling Circuit

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
In an excitation control system of some DC generator, there are accidents sometimes thanks to the snobbery unit. To solve these bothersome, based on an snubber unit of the excitation control circuit, namely a Buck converter topology with rectifier bridge, with the filter capacitance and the exciting winding impedance parameter assured, the preferences ...

A large capacity GTO inverter with low-loss snubber circuits

Conference Record of the 1991 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 1993
A large-capacity inverter using high-power gate turn-off (GTO) thyristors that can be used instead of a cycloconverter in AC drives is presented. With the techniques of multiple configuration and GTO series connection, the inverter capacity is increased effectively. High conversion efficiency is obtained by using low-loss snubber circuits for GTOs.

Overvoltage Suppressing Snubber Circuit for Solid State Circuit Breaker considering System Inductances

2019 10th International Conference on Power Electronics and ECCE Asia (ICPE 2019 - ECCE Asia), 2019
Because of nature of the DC power distribution system, such as existence of power electronic converters with DC link capacitors and low system inductance, it has been known that the protection of DC system against short circuit fault would be difficult compared to AC system. The solid state circuit breaker (SSCB) is one of candidates for solution of DC

RC Snubber Circuit Design for ITER PF Converter Module

Journal of Fusion Energy, 2014
The proper RC snubber circuit is of great importance to protect the thyristor against overvoltage during the turn-off process. This paper mainly presents the design of commutating over-voltage RC snubber circuit for ITER poloidal field (PF) converter module.
