Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Social Life Cycle Assessment of Healthcare Waste Supply Chains

open access: yesEnvironmental and Climate Technologies
Along with the growth of the healthcare waste (HCW) sector, the significance of properly managed waste generated in medical institutions has also grown, both to protect public health and to ensure sustainability.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

CONSIDERATION OF PAVEMENT TYPE SERVICE LIFE CAPACITY FOR SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

open access: yesJournal of Construction Project Management and Innovation, 2019
The opposition over the use of concrete pavement against the conventional flexible pavement in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized; nevertheless, the question of interest should be: is concrete pavement now a way out of Nigeria road network? Certainly, the

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Social life cycle assessment of food loss and waste: social impact considerations

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
Reducing food loss and waste (FLW) is key to increasing the sustainability of food systems worldwide. The causes of FLW vary from on farm losses to distribution and consumption related waste.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Investigating Life Cycle Cost, Environmental and Social Impacts of a Lithium–Ion Battery Pack

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology
This study evaluates the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the life cycle of a battery pack for automotive applications. The analysis employs Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for environmental assessment, Life Cycle Costing (LCC) for economic ...
