The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Quantifying Social Network Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The dynamic character of most social networks requires to model evolution of networks in order to enable complex analysis of theirs dynamics. The following paper focuses on the definition of differences between network snapshots by means of Graph ...

Social Exclusion Orderings [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
We consider the problem of measuring social exclusion using qualitative data. We suggest a class of social exclusion indicators deriving the partial orderings associated with dominace for these indicators. We characterize the set of transformations on the distribution of individual deprivation scores underlying the dominace conditions proposed.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Spirituality: daring new horizons

open access: yesHorizonte, 2015
Chris Clarke describes the contextual background  as “the shadow  side  of  the  triumphant rationality  of the West, a rationality which has cut itself off from mystical knowing, and repressed it along with the economic repression of the poor.” This ...

An Analysis of Civilizational Vices: Focusing on Envy and Its Macro-Social Consequences in Sūrat al-Baqarah [PDF]

open access: yesقرآن فرهنگ و تمدن
Some spiritual illnesses are confined to the individual and do not have wider repercussions. However, many-such as envy-extend into society, polluting it and disrupting the system of human relations, thereby impeding the development of civilization. This

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Discussion quality diffuses in the digital public square

open access: yes, 2017
Studies of online social influence have demonstrated that friends have important effects on many types of behavior in a wide variety of settings. However, we know much less about how influence works among relative strangers in digital public squares ...
