Can humanoid robots be used as a cognitive offloading tool?

open access: yesCognitive Research
Cognitive load occurs when the demands of a task surpass the available processing capacity, straining mental resources and potentially impairing performance efficiency, such as increasing the number of errors in a task.

What should a robot disclose about me? A study about privacy-appropriate behaviors for social robots

open access: yesFrontiers in Robotics and AI, 2023
For robots to become integrated into our daily environment, they must be designed to gain sufficient trust of both users and bystanders. This is in particular important for social robots including those that assume the role of a mediator, working towards

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Enhancing theory of mind in autism through humanoid robot interaction in a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesScientific Reports
Autism Spectrum Disorder presents significant challenges in social cognition, particularly in understanding others’ thoughts, emotions, and intentions. Traditional interventions often rely on role-playing games with human therapists or inanimate objects,

Social robots as eating companions

open access: yesFrontiers in Computer Science, 2022
Previous research shows that eating together (i.e., commensality) impacts food choice, time spent eating, and enjoyment. Conversely, eating alone is considered a possible cause of unhappiness.

Planning Based System for Child-Robot Interaction in Dynamic Play Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper describes the initial steps towards the design of a robotic system that intends to perform actions autonomously in a naturalistic play environment. At the same time it aims for social human-robot interaction~(HRI), focusing on children.

Improving social skills in children with ASD using a long-term, in-home social robot

open access: yesScience Robotics, 2018
Children with ASD show improved joint attention after 1 month of in-home social skills training with an autonomous robot. Social robots can offer tremendous possibilities for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) interventions.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.
