Docosahexaenoic acid ameliorates autistic‐like behaviors by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammatory response in neonatal maternal separation rats

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
The JNK pathway and oxidative stress are activated, and pro‐inflammatory cytokines are increased in neonatal maternal separation (NMS) rats. While docosahexaenoic acid treatment suppresses the activation of JNK pathway and oxidative stress, and reduces pro‐inflammatory cytokines release, thereby improving autism‐like behavior induced by NMS.

Mathematical Modeling of Neuroinflammation in Neurodegenerative Diseases

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Age‐related neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are an increasing public health concern. Whereas the pathology of these diseases is complex, chronic central inflammation, or neuroinflammation, is commonly observed across many neurodegenerative diseases ...

The effects of human wild-type and FALS mutant L144P SOD1 on non-vascular smooth muscle contractions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2013
Background: Mutated copper, zinc-containing superoxide dismutase (SOD1) may self-aggregate, an event that could also be an initial cause of motor neuron malfunction leading to disease onset.

Prematurely Aged Human Microglia Exhibit Impaired Stress Response and Defective Nucleocytoplasmic Shuttling of ALS Associated FUS

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
We developed a human microglia aging model by doxycycline‐induced GFP‐progerin expression, which offers a valuable tool to study human microglial aging and its contribution to neurodegeneration. Induced HMC3‐Progerin cells exhibited increased age markers as well as transcriptomic alterations, including an age‐associated transcriptomic shift and ...

Enhancing Late‐Life Survival and Mobility via Mitohormesis by Reducing Mitochondrial Calcium Levels

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
RNAi knockdown (KD) of mcu‐1 or mitoxantrone treatment lowers mitochondrial Ca2+, extends lifespan, and preserves motility during aging. Benefits require early intervention and involve a transient ROS increase that activates a pmk‐1, daf‐16, and skn‐1 pathway, enhancing stress defense and mitochondrial integrity while reducing early‐life survival ...

SOD1´s Law : An Investigation of ALS Provoking Properties in SOD1

open access: yes, 2009
Proteins are the most important molecules in the cell since they take care of most of the biological functions which resemble life. To ensure that everything is working properly the cell has a rigorous control system to monitor the proper function of its proteins and sends old or dysfunctional proteins for degradation.
