An avian sodium-hydrogen exchanger

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1997
Intestinal sodium transporters, such as the Na+/H+ exchanger (NHE) are important for Na+ conservation in land birds. In mammals, at least five isoforms of the exchanger, NHEs 1-5, have been cloned, with NHE-1 occurring in epithelial basolateral and nonepithelial cell membranes and NHE-3 being restricted to epithelial apical/brush border membranes.

Seizures and Sodium Hydrogen Exchangers: Potential of Sodium Hydrogen Exchanger Inhibitors as Novel Anticonvulsants

CNS & Neurological Disorders - Drug Targets, 2008
Advances in the understanding of mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of epilepsy have led to the identification of sodium hydrogen exchanger (NHE) as one of the possible targets for future antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). There are indicators from several experimental studies that NHE inhibitors could be of significant value as potential ...

ERYTHROCYTE SODIUM/HYDROGEN EXCHANGE INHIBITION BY (−) EPICATECHIN

Cell Biology International, 2001
Epicatechin, a flavonoid belonging to the group of compounds collectively called catechins, have been reported to possess insulin‐like properties. Besides their anti‐diabetic properties, catechins also show growth inhibition. Since cytosolic pH (pHi) plays a role in cell proliferation and the Na/H exchanger (NHE) is the major pH (pHi) regulatory ...

Sodium hydrogen exchanger (NHE1) palmitoylation and potential functional regulation

Life Sciences, 2022
Determine the effect of palmitoylation on the sodium hydrogen exchanger isoform 1 (NHE1), a member of the SLC9 family.NHE1 expressed in native rat tissues or in heterologous cells was assessed for palmitoylation by acyl-biotinyl exchange (ABE) and metabolic labeling with [3H]palmitate.
