Viscoplastic behaviour of soft clay???

Géotechnique, 1997
Based on an extensive experimental programme, this paper presents the stress—strain—time behaviour of a natural soft clay. The clay was part of the foundation soil of Le Flumet dam, whose delayed settlements were very large. The main aim of this study was to explain, to quantify and to anticipate that settlement.

Modelling Soft Clay Behaviour

2011
Since the development of predictive techniques for estimating soil displacements is underpinned by, and critically dependent on, the constitutive models adopted to represent the soil response, it seems only natural to describe some of these fundamental tools that have been used successfully to date for this task.

Rheology and Soft Clay Engineering

1986
The theory of rheology can be used to solve various problems in soft clay engineering. Only by this theory, can the time factor of soft clay be appropriately considered for consolidation and stability. In the first part of this paper, Lee's analogy method is used to solve equations for a plate on visco-elastic foundation as an example.

Behaviour of stabilized soft clay

2011
The paper presents analysis of stabilized soft clay stress-strain behaviour based on drained triaxial test results performed on stabilized and reconstituted soft clay. Main parameters concerning sample preparation and affecting efficiency of stabilization are addressed.

Lateral Pressures from Soft Clay

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1972
FOLLOWING CESSATION OF RETAINING WALL MOVEMENT EARTH PRESSURES FROM SOFT CLAY HAVING LIQUIDITY INDICES EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN UNITY CREEP BACK TO THE AT-REST VALUE. THE RIGID MODEL RETAINING WALL TESTS INDICATE THAT REDUCTIONS IN THE LATERAL PRESSURE OCCUR IMMEDIATELY WHEN WALL MOVEMENTS ARE INDUCED.

Embankment Design on Soft Clays

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1991
A new design procedure for stageconstructed embankments on soft clays is developed. The criticalstate theory is applied and the plastic behavior of normally consolidated clays is taken into account...

Overconsolidation in Soft Clay Deposits

Géotechnique, 1970
A METHOD OF SEPARATING THE DEGREE OF OVERCONSOLIDATION OF SOFT CLAY DEPOSITS, WHICH RESULT FROM CHANGES IN GROUND STRESSES AND GROUNDWATER LEVEL AND FROM TOTAL DEGREE OF OVERCONSOLIDATION IN THE GROUND, IS OUTLINED. /RRL/

Clay–Water∕Cement Ratio Identity for Cement Admixed Soft Clays

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2005
The in situ deep mixing technique is an established means of enhancing bearing capacity and reducing settlement by placing columnar inclusions in soft ground. Developments in equipment and field techniques to implement this method have surpassed the basic understanding of strength development in soft clays admixed with cementing agents at water ...

Rheological catastrophic model for soft clays

Journal of Central South University, 2012
A brief review of the former studies on the mechanisms of soil rheology and microstructure is presented. Then a microstructure model and a set of rheological constitutive relations for soft clays, which describe how the rheological consolidation settlement develops, are established in the framework of the catastrophe theory.

Field Instrumentation for Soft Clay

1981
This article presents a general review of contemporary instrumentation concepts and procedures as applied to geotechnical engineering projects in soft clay. The need for instrumentation is discussed, and the types of measurements most frequently required as well as the measurement techniques generally employed are pointed out.
