New sesquiterpenes from the soft coral Litophyton arboreum. [PDF]
Abstract Two new sesquiterpenes; 8α,11-dihydroxy-β-cyperon (2), and 5-epi-7α-hydroxy-( +)-oplopanone (3), were isolated from the soft coral Litophyton arboreum, together with nine known ones, including five sesquiterpenes; 11-hydroxy-8-oxo-β-cyperon (1), alismoxide (4), 5β,8β-epidioxy-11-hydroxy-6-eudesmene (5), chabrolidione B (6), 7-oxo-tri-

Non-invasive estimation of coral polyp volume and surface area using optical coherence tomography
The surface area (SA) and three-dimensional (3D) morphology of reef-building corals are central to their physiology. A challenge for the estimation of coral SA has been to meet the required spatial resolution as well as the capability to preserve the ...

New Sinularianin Sesquiterpenes from Soft Coral Sinularia sp. [PDF]
Four new sesquiterpenes, sinularianins C–F (3–6), together with known sinularianins A (1) and B (2) were identified from a South China Sea soft coral Sinularia sp. Compounds 1–6 were evaluated for inhibition of NF-κB activation using the cell-based HEK293 NF-κB luciferase reporter gene assay.

Anisotropic Shear Properties of Organic Interfaces in Bio‐composite Materials
A novel cantilever design enables direct probing of shear properties at single organic interfaces within biocomposite prismatic ultrastructures. By decoupling lateral and torsional shear responses, the method reveals isotropic behavior in Atrina vexillum and pronounced anisotropy in Unio pictorum.

Under the sea: Pulsing corals in ambient flow
While many organisms filter feed and exchange heat or nutrients in flow, few benthic organisms also actively pulse to enhance feeding and exchange. One example is the pulsing soft coral (Heteroxenia fuscescens).
