A bioinspired modular soft robotic arm
Engineering Research Express, 2023Abstract A human arm is a vital instrument for performing various tasks. To imitate natural design, we developed and characterized a bioinspired modular soft robotic arm fabricated from fabric thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The soft robotic arm comprises three link sections, three joints, and an end-effector.

Scaling Up Soft Robotics: A Meter-Scale, Modular, and Reconfigurable Soft Robotic System
Soft Robotics, 2022Today's use of large-scale industrial robots is enabling extraordinary achievement on the assembly line, but these robots remain isolated from the humans on the factory floor because they are very powerful, and thus dangerous to be around. In contrast, the soft robotics research community has proposed soft robots that are safe for human environments ...

Modular force approximating soft robotic pneumatic actuator
International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery, 2018Soft robots are highly flexible and adaptable instruments that have proven extremely useful, especially in the surgical environment where compliance allows for improved maneuverability throughout the body. Endoscopic devices are a primary example of an instrument that physicians use to navigate to difficult-to-reach areas inside the body.

3D-Printed Self-Healing Elastomers for Modular Soft Robotics
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2021Advances in materials, designs, and controls are propelling the field of soft robotics at an incredible rate; however, current methods for prototyping soft robots remain cumbersome and struggle to incorporate desirable geometric complexity. Herein, a vat photopolymerizable self-healing elastomer system capable of extreme elongations up to 1000% is ...

A modular approach to soft robots
2012 4th IEEE RAS & EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob), 2012This paper describes a modular approach to creating soft robotic systems. The basis of these systems is an elastomeric actuation element powered by direct mechanical energy in the form of pressurized fluids. Fluidic elastomer actuators are fast and inexpensive to fabricate and offer safety and adaptability to robotic systems.
